Sorry about the poor image quality, rainy day! my brother-in-law came up from Virginia to take a fine Dall ram. Best trip I've ever had in the Brooks Range.

Awesome Ram Chandalar.
You Alaska guy's have it made When it comes to hunting.
I was only there once, West side of Anchorage, There was a cow moose & calve walking across the Mcdonalds parking lot like they owned the place.

Graham;
He was hunting with a .300 Rem. Ultra mag, nothing special, he had zeroed it at 500 yards, and it worked out pretty good. It was probably at about 5-600 yards, as our range finder was on the fritz. I would guess he shot at about a 25deg angle up hill. We were hunting in an area that was pretty thick with grizzly bears, so we got every thing back to camp and zodiaced across the lake to avoid an encounter. We did have one tough experience where we had to sleep out under a rock at 6000 feet, wet and extremely hypothermic, lets just say we got rather close to survive, we would shake for 20 minutes be ok for 10 minutes, then shake for 20 more. That wasn't fun at all, we were so happy to finally get back to our tent and sleeping bags the next day.

Congrats to your bro-in-law. That's a big ol ram for sure. Sounds like you guys had quite a hunt. I hunted the Brook's 6 yrs ago in the NE corner for sheep. Wish I could have gotten a bear tag also, but the outfitter had his allotment allocated to other hunters. And of course I had arctic grizzlies within handgun range on two occasions. What a beautiful place the Brooks Range is indeed.

That's a beaut!!!!

I had some sheep last year, a package left over from a care package, didn't care so much for the meat, tasted like goat but hope you can enjoy it!! (I hope it gets eaten too LOL)

Nice horns for sure!

On the north side you don't see any forest but on the south side there are some pretty good forested areas. On this trip I saw the sheep feeding right in the trees, but typically they stay above tree line.
