Broughton Rifle Barrels compared to Bartlein

alright ive been looking at barrels for a long time now.... and the thing that cought my eye was that Broughton Rifle Barrels is the <span style="text-decoration: underline">only</span> one to offer a accuracy warranty.... how would these barrels stack up against bartlein??? or should i say how does bartlein stack up against Broughton.....

or am i just arguing a point thats soo small it is irrlevant?

What do you think would actually happen if someone that couldn't hit the broad side of a barn due to poor marksmanship purchased a rifle with a Broughton barrel and wanted it replaced? It would likely get sent back, checked by someone that can shoot, and found to be very accurate after all. Guarantees of that sort mean very little because accuracy/precision also depends to a large degree on the person behind the rifle. Broughton and Bartlein both make very high quality barrels, which will likely shoot better than the majority of people driving them. You won't go wrong with either maker.

Broughton, Bartlein, Kreiger, Brux, Shilen, Obermeyer....are all the same in my book. Order from the one that can get it to you the fastest.

I have owned most of the major barrel names, Broughton, Bartlein, Benchmark, Rock, Obermyer, Kreiger, Lilja ....they all shoot. Some barrels are faster than others, some are more easily available, but they are all great. I am running a Broughton 5C now for the 243, its a smokin fast barrel that I shoot 200-400 rounds through between cleaning and it shoots in the .3s, as would most (if not all) of the barrel manufacturers I listed.

I know of one "big name" builder that is a member here who sears by Broughton.
He tells me the guarantee is why. They give him no guff if the barrel doesn't shoot to his specs after he chambers it.
Will they do that for anyone? Definitely not!
I have one Broughton and like it but I also have Krieger, Brux, Bartlien and PacNor and like them too.

What about shilen. I especially like that they have 'bolt ons' for savage actions.
I believe bartlein and kreiger are 6-8 months out on barrel blanks. Then you have to wait on your Smith.

Shilen? Yep, they've been producing fine, match winning barrels for a long time...delivery time isn't too far out either.

Lilja is another manufacture to consider...

There is a significant difference between the two. Broughton is a button rifled barrel; Bartlein is a cut rifled barrel. I have had both and both shot very well. Certain smiths favor button versus cut rifled barrels. Most smiths will install whatever you want them to install.

I would check to see the delivery times between the two, as you'll see that Bartlein is now saying on its website 6 - 9 MONTHS to get a barrel. Broughton does not say delivery times on the site you'll need to give them a call. Some 3rd parties (including folks here on the Hide) carry blanks, so you can shortcut the delivery times and get one from an outside source. I do not know anyone other than Broughton that carries Broughton blanks (maybe they are out there and I have not heard of them).

I lean towards cut rifled barrels, as they tend to last longer for me (my own personal experience shooting 7WSM for nearly a decade). The barrel blanks that I have currently in storage for installation are (in no particular order) Bartlein, Kreiger, Obermeyer, Brux.

If you can afford it, you need to try to think down the road and buy more than one blank (or buy one in advance), so that when you burn out a barrel you are not waiting 6-9 months to get one installed. Many smiths, including one that I deal with frequently, no longer stock a large number of barrel blanks.

i can def see the method to your madness.... the #1 used name on this site for barrels ive seen is bartlein... there must be a reaosn why... and i have a few sources for their barrels...this will be my first high dollar build so i guess we will see... I cant decide between the 300RUM or 300 win.... this rifle is going to be a paper puncher and hunted with alot.... i just think the RUM will burn not only alot of powder but also burn the barrel out alot quicker than a 300 WIN....

I've shot Brux,Oby's, and I currently have a Rock Creek on my Surgeon action custom rifle. It's FAST and accurate. I've always heard Rock's are fast. Mine is and it's accurate as shit.

I'm doing a another gun right now and I got a Bartlein in medium Palma. I haven't had it chambered but after looking through the bore and inspecting it, it is extremely nice. I talk to Frank on here and he was awesome to talk to, it was like talking to a buddy or friend. Ill probably use Bartlein as my go to manufacturer but all the ones listed above have shot LESS then 1/2 MOA for me.

As i run short barrel 20" i went with Broughton, always had barrel in less than 12weeks
Due to length i run them speed is important, i cant afford to lose velocity due to barrel, Broughtons are quick period
My lil 20" x47 can run 123gr amax etc @ 3023fps with zero issues, having said that i,m currently waiting on a barrel from frank
(Bartlein) whom convinced me via some indepth land/groove talk. Frank knows barrels and will happily make ya head hurt, expectation for barrel 3050fps++.
Any of the top names will serve you well, go with whatever you can get hold of quick, numerous vendors have a good stock on hand

Well let's see. Right now in the safe I have rifles wearing Krieger, Bartlien, Obermeyer, Brux, and a couple Douglas. I've also had Rock, another Brux, a couple Lilja barrels, a few Broughtons, and a few more Kriegers, Bartliens, and one Shilen. They all shot exceptional. The worst shooting of the bunch were the Lilja tubes. Those were also all #1 or ##2 contours for some really lite rifles, think 5.5 pounds including optics, and still came in shooting under .75 MOA. The others with a bit of load work have typically easily held under .5 with most getting into the .3's regularly.

Hi suburbanhick,

Builders and retailers are going <span style="text-decoration: underline">bonkers</span> with orders right now in the wake of the Connecticut shootings and all the agitation for new regulations. A guy I know has not been able to put down his phone since the weekend. Just keep trying the number at Rock Creek (or wherever you choose) over and over; I'm sure you'll get through eventually.

i agree with this. that and the fact that a lot of the accuracy comes from if its installed properly / action trued properly. you put a good barrel on an out of whack action and whats the point in buying the barrel and installing it? maybe it will make you more consistently inaccurate lol.

you can't really give an accuracy guarantee unless all of the work is being done by your company. thats why back when Tac Ops used to do their rifles upgrade packages they didn't come with a "guarantee" like their custom rigs. most of the ones i heard about all shot sub .50 moa anyway though.

I've a 20 inch Broughton barrel on my 300 wm and I'm getting 2900 fps out of it. It's smoking fast... Especially for that length.

I have had barrels from Bartlein, Rock, Krieger, Brux, and Broughton.
All are accurate, and it doesn't matter to me if the barrel is cut rifled or button.
