Brownells Barrels for Ruger Precision Rifle?

One of the questions asked is “how much does it weigh” and the response was 3.33lbs. That’s humorous they label it as a “heavy contour” as that’s in between a Bartlein 2 and 3 contour. IMO that means the contour was labeled by someone who has never been in a gym or they’re unfamiliar with comp gun contours.

Another response about accuracy essentially said it gives you the same accuracy as a factory Barrel. I’d go Prefit from a reputable Smith like Patriot Valley for 200 more with my $$$. Piece of mind is priceless to this guy....my $.02

Thanks for posting this. I might get one of these. I've been looking for a nitrided barrel for my RPR and the price of this is pretty reasonable.

Thanks for the feedback.
I am going to call Brownells tomorrow to see if I can get more details on them.
I noticed the prefits for the Rem 700 are listed as Satern barrels, but I did not see that listed on these.
As long as these would be 1 MOA or better with a decent load, I am good with that. At that price point, I am not expecting a single ragged hole.
I run across used RPRs fairly frequently in .243 at a decent price and this would be a good economical way to convert them to 6.5 or .308.
I always have active duty brothers stopping by, and I am trying to build up a stash of decent rifles that they could use. Hopefully this will work!

UPDATE, Per Brownells:
24" Barrel is 4 pounds
1.176" at the Shoulder
0.750" at the muzzle

Looking at Bartlein's measurements for a RPR https://bartleinbarrels.com/contours/ , that is pretty close to what they have.

They did not identify the manufacturer by name.

Doesn't seem like anyone has run one of these, so I guess that I will have to be the Guinea Pig!

Sorry, I should have followed up.

For the money ($212), I would buy another one.

I have shot about 120 rounds through it ( 18" .308), a lot of different loads, and it has been a consistent 0.75-1.0 MOA shooter.

I don't think that it is necissarily a better barrel than a factory Ruger barrel, but I would say that it is a satisfactory swap out if you are looking to change calibers and/or length.

Based on my experience with 1 barrel, this is not going to be a ragged hole tack driver, so if that is what you are looking for, I would spend more money elsewhere.

If anyone has any other experience with these, please share it.

Thanks!

I got one, the 6.5 CM 24" barrel. I have not shot it enough yet or play with loadings. After 5 rounds for sight it, top group is my first group with 37.3 IMR4064, 139 Lapua, second group is 37.0 Varget, 139 Lapuas. These two loads shoot great in all my 6.5's. This was the first time I ever fired a RPR, first round in each group is the single bullet strike ever so slightly out of the group causing the spread. So far, I am liking it.
