Wondering why Brownells would be charging this. They aren't the ones doing the actual transfer, your FFL has to do that. I won't be buying firearms from them, I was just wondering after seeing it in an email.

Many businesses charge a firearms fee. I think more than anything it’s to cover the person that does the legal reviews confirming the FFL is legit and it’s not a ban state.

like with any other vendor, need to look at everything they charge (product, fees, shipping) and make your choice accordingly.

the $10 ffl fee does show up when reviewing your cart, so not like they're trying to hide it. if it only showed up at check out, or even worse, in your bill after check out, then yeah i'd be pretty upset.

You must deal with a really good FFL, you sell a gun to someone, and transfer it from your FFL to FFL, yours puts that firearm on his books, and transfers it the buyers FFL, who transfers it to the buyer.............and you are only paying a $10 transfer fee, you are doing good...........

The only transfer fee I have ever paid was on a firearm that was shipped to my FFL from a seller or other FFL. I never paid one to a FFL who sold me one directly.

If you are buying a gun from them you would be overpaying anyhow.
There are some exceptions. Consider being able to get the AXMC 300WM for $6750 - 10% discount code - another 6% in Active Junky cashback. They no longer allow coupons on that though.

Or a Dead Air Ghost 45M for $450. Yeah, not a gun, but still.

Their Edge plan is nice when you need to order a $3 part and can have it within 3 days with no shipping charges. With my purchase patterns, the Edge plan has been worth it.

One disturbing thing I have realized from years of close observation is that the bigger and more successful any shooting sports retailer gets, the more Fuddy they become. Dicks, Cabelas, BassPro, Brownells, etc... They all started off small, with fiercely loyal customer bases at one point. Then they grew larger and the virtue signaling and the "I know what is right for this country, I can fix it" nonsense starts to creep in.

And directly on the heels of that is management starting to isolate themselves from the same customer base whose feedback in the past led them to where they are today. Ridiculous policies and surprise fees that never existed before, "in order to appeal to XX, we do not carry or order item YY anymore"... Shit like that.

I always get my gun related gear and components at smaller, community driven retailers, brick and mortar or Internet. And many others are starting to do the same too.
