Gunsmithing Bubba gunsmithing project

Chassis definitely aren't for everyone, I tried the Oryx out on a Howa rifle I was reviewing and really liked it, a couple minor fit and finish gripes but nothing huge.

When you say you're making a bushing for the trigger guard screw, are you referring to the trigger guard retainer screw or the rear action screw? Since you are going to be using the Boyd's have you also thought about running PTG's bottom metal that will allow the use of AICS magazines?
I’m referring to the rear action screw. I believe it should be a simple lathe project and glue in place with a little JB weld. So far still using the factory synthetic stock. Going to run it to see just how good of accuracy I can get from a budget accuracy build. The PTG bottom metal would factor in the build if and when I go to a Boyd’s stock.

So I dropped the gun into an Oryx chassis to use the gun as a cheaper trainer/test bed rifle for reviews. That being saif, the gun started to have light primer strike issues with multiple kinds of ammunition. I sent it back to Remington to get checked out and it was returned with a clean bill of health. I'm having trouble believing that but i still need to take it to the range to check it out. This is complicated by the lack of good .223 to use of course. So, it was a fun project but right now the gun is dormant.

Thanks for the reply. If I go for it Ill be I'll with FGMM primers so hopefully they're more sensitive than factory ones.

I'm hesitant with Remington's recent QC reputation which is a shame. It's a good looking rifle and reviews seem to be positive overall, I want something with less oomph than my .308 to play with without busting my budget.

I do like the rifle, it has great features and I had some other plans for it down the road. However, I'm not handloading and since I'm relying on factory ammo I've been focusing more on my AR's and other bolt guns. Luckily i don't have a lot tied up in it.

That's true. The best I can find right now is just under $460 which isn't bad. I just spoke with Remington and it isn't included in their summer $75 rebate so Im a little sour about that haha. Thanks again man.
