For use on a lever gun, something nice and trim is the ticket. Had it not been discontinued, Vortex Razor HD LH 1.5-8x32 would be perfect. I bought an extra one just in case when they were closing out for a lever gun I do not yet have (looking for a takedown BLR in 300WSM).
Aside from that, I think SWFA Ultralight 2.5-10x32 is an excellent option.
If you like Leupold, VX-3i 2.5-8x36 should be on your list.
In terms of bang for the buck, SWFA seems to be clearing out Sig Whiskey3 2-7x32 for $130. That's a good deal.

Regards the Leupold, mine being a cheap scope and the fact is was green had more to do with deciding to buy it than anything else......
I didn't buy it expecting it would hold zero if the turrets were adjusted.
Thus my effort to set a good zero than never fucking touch it ever again.
In the case I want to shoot beyond the 5 mils in the reticle Im locating the magnification where the value of the mil reticle "doubles" (approx. 4X from 9X).
Whats your experience with these?
Do they lose zero just from sitting there as the springs creep the reticle or is it an adjustment issue where once moved you never get a good return to zero?
How much shift with magnification changes?
If the OP goes with a cap turret Leupold than only uses his reticle - never touches the adjustments - is it still a viable beater scope?

I've 100's of scopes.
That(T16) Weaver set atop an 18lb 223AI Egg Rifle,for more than a few moons and was great for shutting lippy fuckers up. Affectionately known as Baddest Mother Fucker On The Planet.
For anything approaching utility,they(T's) are useless,due the trite erector travel and slooowwwwwwwww parallax correction. Fair to middlin',for gunning a set distance as a lark and a guy could do worse than a steel tubed T-Series. 16x MQ in the saddle now(obviously) and the reticle alone,will get it to the Transonic slip at 1-12" RPM.
