I'm currently tossing around the idea of a complete budget build. I have a Remington LTR 308 barreled action laying around. First I thought I wanted to turn it into a custom hunting rifle. But since I am so far away from that I decided I would use a custom action for that project. So the plans I'm thinking about are pretty strait forward.

Thread barrel and add screw on break. Budget $300. Includes gunsmith, break and shipping (LTR always seemed to jump way more then other rifles)

Timney Trigger- $125 Used one hopefully

Stock-? Here lies the question. Magpul hunter and bottom metal or Grayboe stock with bdl. Does anyone know if the grayboe stock needs to be bedded? If so its a deal breaker and I'll just bolt it into the magpul as I have heard good things about it. Also would like to here any experiences people had with the grayboe stocks.

Thanks

The magpul isn't too bad, the forend is a little bit flimsy not enough to make it touch the barrel under normal use, but I was hoping for stiffer. I think the HS stock that came on my LTR was stiffer. If you like the feel of the magpul, I'd go with that.

Grayboe and ptg dbm! All the way! Huge improvment on my 700 and the ptg dropped right in and feeds perfect with mapgul aics pattern mags. The grayboe is pillar bedded. Just drop in and your good. Fit was perfect. If you wanted to down the road you could skim bed it but its not needed.

I just recently received a Grayboe for a SA. I was impressed about everything except for the recoil lug area. It was OK, but not flat. I plan to at a minimum bed the recoil lug.

I also looked into the MP Hunter stock. You are looking at about a $100 difference if you use the PTG Bottom metal. The Grayboe is a much better stock. The egos are better, and the stock is stiffer.

I have the magpul stock on a 20in semi-custom .308. So far, I am a big fan. Great quality for the price. They seem to be plenty stiff to me.

I just bought a second one for my long action build that is in progress. Midway had them on sale for $225
