The thread for Precision rifles is really long and thought it'd be nice to start one on budget builds for long range shooting.
Savage rifles have been referred to as Polished Turds so I'm proud to show our two Turds, also two Turdettes and since the last one is a 5 shot it might be called a Fart with a leak.
The Savage rifles are Mod 11 actions with factory Accu-triggers, Shilen select match 28" 260 barrels, CDI metal on one, Accurate metal on the other, AICS magazines, Harris bi-pods with self made pointy feet, HS Precision Pro stocks, Farrells 30moa mounts, XLR cheek rest, Seekins rings, Both Harrells, Ross brakes for both and SWFA SS 5-20x50 scopes.
They shoot way better than what the assembled price should dictate.
The two pistols are Remington XP-100 with Lilja 15" 260 barrels, EGW 20moa mount with Leupold QRW rings and Vortex PST 4-16x50 with off brand brakes on them and Harris bi-pods. Some type of center grip stock that we modified to get rid of the thumb hole design. These were our two 1000 yard guns we used the last two years at Rayners and did surprising well for what they are. Even a couple top 5 finishes. Don't let the short barrels fool you, even in rifles they will shoot.
The last gun is also part of our long range precision collection. It is a Freedom Arms 10" 44mag revolver that started out as a test piece with a VGM (Variable Gantry Mount) with a Leupold 2 1/2-8 pistol scope to see just how far it could shoot accurately. Right now the last pin is set for 500 yards with my personal best being 4 hits out of 5 on a full size IPSC target at 500 yards. Tom Rayner (owner of Rayners Range in Ohio) has hit 3 out of 5 at that same distance with it.
Lets see those budget builds, it's nice to have the money to buy the very best equipment but it's not really needed to be competitive and finish at the top of the pack.
