Hey all, I'm back after my winter hibernation. Took the plunge...... and had some work done to my 700. This budget build got out of hand, so I'm looking for some external validation.

What do you think?

Blue printed action. Bolt completely worked over. Lilja (supposed to be 3 groove) 24" Stainless barrel. Timney trigger set at 2 lbs. Vortex SFP Viper PST. B&C Stock. Inletted for huge SS barrel. Its definitely nose heavy. Now I have to get some brass and break it in. Just got it home today and refitted everything to it.

Yes, I could have went custom for the money I have in the entire rig, but where's the fun in that? Piece meal building was fun!

It looks good and I’m sure it will shoot great but how was it shooting before the blue printing and new barrel?

It was a VTR with a triangular barrel (1:12) before. It actually shot well. Somewhere between .5 and .75 MOA depending on how well I did my part. I only changed it because I wanted a 1:10 twist and the brake that was there made the gun hop and made follow up shots difficult.

As far as the coke machine, yes it works. It takes dimes and only takes glass bottles. And yes, it has one shelf allocated for beer. The rest is pop.

Coke tastes better out of glass bottles.
Fact.

Nice rig.

Preach on brother. Actually, it tastes better from Mexico. Real sugar coke out of a glass bottle. The way God intended!

I have two flavors of coke. 8 oz small bottle and 16 oz hancho en mexio Coke which is referred to as Coca-Cola in my house. The rest is "Classic Coke" which is garbage.

Is the next step DBM?

Not at this time. Only reason I would go with a DBM is if I start doing tactical matches. Nobody does them around here. I know there are some in S. Indiana and Kentucky. Right now what I shoot is all single feed.

That’s still pretty good… Personally I don’t know if I would have done printing and a barrel swap with a rifle shooting .5 to .75 MOA… but I’m a bit frugal when it comes to things like that.

My SPS Tactical shoots a solid .5 MOA and that type of work will only come once I see an accuracy drop off / burn out the barrel.

I can see the desire for a 1:10 but a 1:12 with the 168 Amax BC still does a great job compared to something like a 175 SMK but my shooting application rarely exceeds 800-900 yards.

Since the rifle shoots at an acceptable level for me I sank a bit more into optics and an AICS chassis. When the times come to spend the cash I’ll probably end up changing the caliber to something in the 6.5 flavor.

Let us know how the new rig shoots after a solid load workup.

I hear ya ML. It wasn't an easy choice. I too was told to wait for the barrel to burn out but ultimately I was unhappy with my experience with the VTR (I bought it because it looked cool). I had less than 1K rounds in the VTR barrel. Another issue I was having was the amount of heat soak I was getting with the barrel doing matches. I noticed that accuracy did decrease after only a few rounds.

If I would have bought smarter, I would have got the SPS 1:10 varmint and I would have never swapped out barrels. My buddy has that exact 700 and he shoots lights out with just a bolted in B&C adjustable stock.

As far as how far I went with the barrel, well, when you do something, do it right the first time right?

Rifle looks good, hope she shoots as good as she looks! Buy once, cry once..............

Fully agree with this!

Love the coke machine. Personally I haven't shot a Rem with the stock barrel on it for years i usually dont even give them a chance. The Tikka varmit I just picked up is a different story and I'm going to try and resist temptation and leave it alone.
