Reason is for playing just shooting I will shoot out to 1 mile but not main reason for scope. I will eventually try my hand with nrl hunter next year.

    Options I see.

    Arken
    Athlon Midas tac
    Vortex models.

Only one ive seen is Athlon so not much to base my views on.

Burris XTR III seems like a good scope for the money.

@gr8fuldoug at CameraLandNY seems to have good deals on them. He would be a good person to talk to.

I also wouldn't be afraid to get a used scope. Most scopes don't hold their value very well, making for great deals on the second hand market. Keep an eye on the PX here.

scopes are usually pretty good 2nd hand

listing a rough budget $-$$ would be helpful

If the XTR3 has the pyramid shaped turret knurling, I would skip it. Others seem to have no issues with it, but I find them sharp and uncomfortable. Stupid to pay $1k and deal with that. Even stupider to pay $1k and put a bicycle inner tube over the turret knobs

I stay away from cheap vortex. Based on my past experiences. Athlon gets some decent praise and my Cronus BTR (not same tier as the Midas) was good. Arken EP5 is the new kid on the block. Just mounted one on my B14R to try out. That Arken EP5 is a tank just fyi. They have a lighter hunting model of the SH4 I believe now. Haven’t seen or used one though
