Looking for explanation of buffer dynamics. What is the correct buffer for what application. I assume heavier buffer, slower cycle time. What about spring? I learned hard way 308 requires shorter buffer.

Basically you want to run the heaviest buffer you can that will still allow the rifle to cycle correctly. The shorter the barrel/gas system length the heavier buffer you can run because you pressure will be higher. Yes a AR10 buffer is different from a AR15 buffer.
