I built a 6.5-284 for my cousin and it is all finished except the cerakoting. The specs are a rem 700 Long action and I faced the action, cleaned up the threads, polished the locking lug area, and lapped the lugs. It has a Brux 6.5 8.5 twist #3 barrel and a Bell & Carlson stock that I bedded with Devcon.

Here are first 3 shots out of the rifle and the range is 100 yards.

I shot tonight and here are the results. These are shots 7,8,9 out of the gun.

I cleaned the rifle and shot this 3 shot group and the first shot was with the clean barrel. These are shots 10,11, and 12.

It is going to be awhile for the cerakoting to take place because I am waiting on some swatches to try and match the red in this stock. Here is what the rifle looks like right now.

I would recommend hanging less barrel outside of your fixture and pulling your profiling tool closer in to your tool holder. The more supported your work and cutters are, the better your finish and better accuracy your cuts will have.

If possible, an outboard spider would allow you to chamber through the headstock and pull the barrel in quite a bit closer to the spindle of your machine as well (instead of adding all of the extra length of your receiver truing jig).

Thanks. The barrel is 26 3/4 from the muzzle to the end of the tenon. I was talking to the gentleman who taught me how to chamber and he mentioned the same thing about the work piece and tool so I will shorten both up from now on. I like that fixture for both action truing and chambering and it works well. I think if I change eventually I would look at the SSG fixture and a 6 jaw chuck but that will be down the road.

Nice work....I am curious to what kind of velocity your getting with that h1000... I too have the need for a 6.5-284 but that new 6.5wsm is pretty cool and would be a no brainier if I didn't have to deal with the brass issues.

Thank you. That load is a mild one running at 2834fps but the barrel is also new and real tight right now. You should be able to get 2950fps or higher with 140gr bullets with H-1000 or Retumbo but that will depend on barrel length and the barrel you have. Some barrels are slower and some are faster and it is just the luck of the draw.

Funky.... I like the black and red...have thought of that color combo for a hunting rifle.

How do you get the paint to web? Low pressure and more viscous paint?

Thanks. The stock is a factory painted Bell & Carlson Black with Red spider web. The metal I did in Cerakote H series Graphite Black and Fire Engine Red specs to match the color on the stock. I would like to find a way to shoot Cerakote in a web pattern but I have not found away as of yet...

Looks nice, nothing like building guns. Those little Bell and Carlson mountain rifle stocks feel and look really classy. Especially on a Remington 700.
