Hey guys, I have a what would you do question. I have a Remington 700 Sps tactical in 308 20” with 1/10 twist (non threaded) with about 100 rounds threw it. I’ve had it for about 6 years. So my question is, would you buy a cadex chassis, timney Calvin elite 2 stage trigger and be happy. Or, for about $300 more just buy a Tikka t3x tac a1 in 6.5 Creedmoor ? I don’t want 2 rifles, so if I buy the tikka, I’m stuck trying to sell the Sps and 400 rounds of 168 fgmm to make room. The only thing that bothers me about my Sps is the bolt knob. I don’t like any of the options for customizing it either.

The thing about the SPS is that you will not lose any money on it if you do not sell it. If it were me Id oil the hell out of it, drop it in a poly gun bag and tuck it somewhere dry and cool and forget about it. As for the Tac 1, I do love a Tikka, i do not however like being married to one stock. All of the tikka stocks are interchangeable (sort of). I would get a 24" CTR and drop it in any of the stocks or chassis out there. You can get one that is ready for AI mags (KRG) all probably cheaper or the same price as the TAC A1

You have 400 rounds of ammo just sitting there and have only fired the rifle 100 times in the last 6 years. If I were you I would shoot the rest of that 400 rounds of ammo and make sure that Remington is worth upgrading.

I have a 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD (similar if not the same rifle). KRG bolt lift is a great solution, but I'm assuming you're not a fan of the KRG bolt lift. Some people do not like their aesthetics but they are very functional. Are you opposed to sending the bolt to badger for a new but knob (I think it's about $95 with the service). I agree with the other poster that you should shoot it more with some of those 400 rounds, see if it's worth upgrading, and if it is just find a teardrop or round Tikka style knob to put on SPS. There's no shortage of smiths or businesses willing to help you with that.

Bryon, The Chassis has nothing to do with the bolt. Watch a video or 2 on chassis and you will understand. What I said was , the bolt knob is the only thing on the Remington’s I don’t like. I can live with it I just don’t like it. And JKflyfish, I know it shoots well with the few rounds I’ve shot with it. The action is nice too. I’ve decided to upgrade it and get a Tikka later on. I’ve already tore it down and am now waiting on parts.

Update!!!!! I decided to upgrade the old Remington. First group after getting it on paper. Not great but it was extremely hot out and I was being attacked by horse flys. Haha.

I really like the KRG. The gun feels way more rigid now. I don’t think I’ll thread the barrel. I’m think after I get bored with it again I’ll go with a custom barrel and action. The cool thing about the chassis is if I want a 6.5 creedmore I can’t just buy a sps varment 6.5 and slap it in there. Not looking for LA. I’m enjoying shooting these $1 dollar rounds too much.
