Hey guys, my name is victor and im 18. im from AZ, and i have a Yugo SKS. my uncle bought it for me 2 years ago as a stating rifle. i now want to get into more serious shooting, like longer distances. i want to start with building a whole upper first. i found this Upper Receiver at cheaperthandirt.com and i was wondering if you guys could give me your opinions on it, and maybe some advice about building my AR. Thanks.

Great questions Bertman. Now to the person asking the questions all in which some internet searching could have answered!
Advice is to start reading some and "SEARCHING" the internet to know what you need.
Distance to some is 600 yards while others is 100 yards. Get more to the point and what you are going to be using it for then we can answer the questions better.

If you post a link to the upper you were looking at it would also help. 200-300 is good for just about any stock AR-15. If you plan on building the entire thing yourself (with the questions already asked I would advise against) start with a good barrel and go from there.

Re: Building my First AR-15

Daniel Defense makes a hell of an AR for the money. My preference of brands are the following, not in any order. It will depend on your application and what you want it for. For starting out for my first AR that i just completed i got a upper and lower. The next one however i plan to build from scratch. I went with BCM for my HD carbine and couldn't be happier, IMO its hard to beat BCM or DD for price/performance.
There are plenty of good brands that i haven't included like RRA and others. I just prefer mil spec as it gets. For 300yds shooting anything would work really.
BCM
DD
Colt
LMT
Noveske
Spikes Tactical
