I had to throw this in I just finished it and test fired 4 rounds. This started it life as a 700VS 223. I rebarreled it with a stainless blank .30 cal 1-10 twist cut the barrel to 18inch threaded 5/8x24 and chambered it in 300 whisper. I am shooting 210 SMK in front of 8.4 grains of Lil-gun. I just had to show it to the lefties. Oh yea I started it yesterday and finished it this afternoon. Its not for sale yet but it will be later.

For the same reason you'd need one for a .22lr

I stepped out back and my 2 horses looked at me while I shot it and never moved. They usually haul ass. sounds like unhooking and air tool. If you have to ask why you need a suppressor on a subsonic round you never played with them. They still make me giggle when they go POOF.

That looks just like my 300 whisper except my bolt handle is on the correct side. Man these things are a blast......quick to chamber too. If I were a gunsmith for the general public I would only want to do small cases. My whisper was the quickest chamber I ever cut.
Hopefully I will find out on the .500 whisper soon. Just waiting on a barrel.

It will be less that 1100 fps, most whisper owners like to stay around 1000 fps to say subsonic.

I shoot 220gr SMK's @1100 and have hit an 18" plate at 830yrds..I usually shoot inside 300 but that is not the limit of its ability. Remember that subsonic velocities do not fall off like supersonics- they are very efficient.

This sounds all great and wonderful, but that has got to be a pain in the ass to reload (with trying to resize the brass).

Why don't you get a .308 and load some 240 SMK's with about 10 grains of powder?

Seems like a really neet cartridge, but too much work too reload IMHO.

I currently don't reload, but how hard is it to turn down .223 brass?

several reasons why its better than trying to down load a 308- first you do not have to deal with case capacity issues because with the whisper you are filling the case. Second you can not stabilize a 240gr bullet out of a stock barreled 308- you need an 8 twist.
As to your reloading concerns...its a non issue. It is not any harder to reload these than any other round. You can buy brass ready made if you dont want to make it but making it is not a big deal either- I have made thousands and will make thousands more.

Actually 180-200 gr stabilize quite well with a 1-10 with a 308 using trailboss and case cap. isnot a issue. As a whisper fiend myself thats quite a nice rig. How much?:)

Couldn't you just order a custom 1-8" twist Krieger?

If this isn't possible, could you not just use a .300WM, 240 SMK, and 10grns. of powder?

If you already have a 223 rifle you could easily enough make it a switch barrel for both 223 and 300 whisper. As for trying to down load a 300WM you will be dealing with even larger case capacity issues. If you ever have the chance to shoot a 300 whisper you will understand more easily what all the hoopla is about. They really are too much fun to describe.

You can use a saw to remove nuts. Is it the right tool for the job? Low loads in big cases can be very risky. .308 is the largest I would load subsonic and smaller cases are much better. No need to mess around with fillers and hope nothing ever goes wrong.

I use .221 Fireball's w/a 240gr.SMK in front of 9.7gr. of H-110, in my AR. Sighted in +2"@ 100yds. it hits -18"@200 with a resounding THUD! Well worth the project for all that fun. Although,the big ole doe I took with it last yr. didn't quite see it that way.

The 300 Whisper is indeed a very good round..it was/is specifically designed for suppressor usage...I have had 2 customed Savage actions built by Spook on Quarterbore forums...goes by AKA Spook on the hide...currently working on my fourth on a Rem700 with a 1:8 douglas barrel...use everything from 110 vmax to 250 Hawk..whats not to like?

A better hog gun, I cannot imagine: quite, so as not the scare the little piggies when all bunched up, enough power to get into the brain-housing and probably rattle around a little.

I'd do it on an AR, but don't wish to mess with the the gas problems.

I will own one soon!

What range of accuracy are you seeing from this at 100 yards?

I have a .300Whisper that I built for myself that is based on a Rem700 action with a 1 in 8" Krieger. Anyone doubting the effectiveness of a 240gr SMK at 1000ft/s really needs to see it to believe. I shot a very large bodied red deer stag a few months ago from exactly 100yds, and the 240gr SMK passed clean through the chest cavity, taking out the heart on the way, and the deer took about 5 steps and fell over. Im just waiting on one of the new MCS-T5A stocks from Tom Manners with the mini chassis built in, and with the new 10 round .223 sized mags available, it will be a very nice rifle. At the moment it sits in a short HS stock, but I really like Manners stocks

well to answer some of the posts.
1. the scope is a 1-6 lighted mildot Schumfelt (no sure on spelling but its a hihg dollar throw down I had on an old 375H&H
2.I have been using 300 whisper brass but I have a bunch of 223 cut and resized.
3. it had enough power to go through a 4x4 treated piece of lumber @ 100 yrds
4. The can is a YHM Phantom 7.62 QD
5.that was a new barrel blank and with the low velocity it will take a while to break in.
what is real cool is watching the hole appear in the target after the recoil which it about the same as a 223 rifle.
And some some of the people who ask "why" I have a lot of suppressors and enjoy the tightning of my groups with the addition of the can. I have never had a group get bigger with a can than without. I shoot them of on 223,300 whisper,308,30-06,300wm,300RUM, and a host of ARs and handguns, They keep me in good graces with the neighbors of my property. If anyone would like I have 4 barrel blanks in 1-10 #7 contour stainless I can install and chamber on your action just like mine for 450.00 The blanks are Montana Rifleman.

I got it on paper and sighted in with 8 rounds, cleaned it and shot about 1/2-5/8 group with the next 12 rounds cleaning after ever 3 rounds. low velocity I didn't worry cleaning after every round.
