Built vs Bought?

So I've been researching precision shooting for a bit now and I'm closing in on a choice for my first rifle. I'm well aware of the whole bought vs built debate amongst the AR community. But I'd like to get some thoughts from the people on this forum for sniper rifles. What would you recommend and why? Essentially what I'm thinking is either choosing a Cadex Kraken in 338lm or a custom build using a Mcmillan A5 stock, bartlein barrel, surgeon or cadex action. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

For me its about my budget what ever it is at that time you can get ai's that are build and they are some of the sweetest guns in the world or something custom
I went with a mdt acc for a chassis with all the fixings I could afford after not being able to find exactly what I wanted in a custom hardwood wood rifle stocks . I love it its cold it's metal not really what I wanted , but all in all it every bit of what i dreamed it could be . I am really a fan of old hand tooled and or carved hard wood stocks looking online at museum quality pieces they are like art or sex in a wooden shape from the lines to the curves and feel of the wood in my hand . I am a gun freak maybe I can't deny it like a hot woman or a really nice old car its just something that pules at my gut the metal a little less and composite stocks even less but that's my take on it you could feel totally different and its all good .

I’m of the opinion that someone else’s opinion of my firearms means precisely zero. If you like to build, tinker, & troubleshoot yourself then start piecing your long range LEGO toy together. If you just want an “easy button”, and the Kraken is a pretty awesome one, then fire up the checkbook.

Just my $.02

Don’t buy a 338 Lapua for your first precision rifle, that would be a giant mistake.
Agreed. If this is your first bolt gun then I’m assuming you will want to:
1. Shoot it often because it’s fun
2. Shoot it often because you need the practice

338 Lapua will make you go broke and won’t be enjoyable for long range sessions.

That's why I was considering the Kraken. The ability to convert between calibers.

It will also kill his fundamentals and his shooting will go backwards.

But something reasonable to get your feet wet.

Unless you plan on shooting a mile or more all the time. Otherwise get a 6, 6.5, .308, all get to 1K just fine, the first two will go farther easily. And they will be a lot easier and cheaper to shoot.
