Bullet jump question.

It might, but I just mess with powder from there. About the only thing you can do. You can seat it lower. That can work too. Just have to see what will work. Just my opinion though.

It’s not uncommon for me to find the best shooting loads by jumping .050 to .080; the barrel I’m shooting now is at .070

Set bullet to longest OAL safe for magazine(assuming your still jumping at that point) then if you want you can do a seating depth test working in(shorter).
Even the classic VLD most often with perform well with a large jump.

The Rem 700 308 is considered a good accurate rifle, and most bullets can’t encounter the lands and have the shank of the bullet in the neck of the case at the same time.

Forget about it, don’t jam. Precision Rifle has an interesting study on the subject. This will get you started.

Depends on what bullet.

Berger Hybrids like to be jumped from 40 thou to even 130 thou off lands. Mine are usually from 40 to 80 off but my friends rifle likes 130 off. There were several other good depths but 130 was best.

Wow, and I was worried about .050" jump. That .130" is a lot.
I'm running 175 grn SMK's for the most part but will also have some 175-180 high B.C. hunters too.

Good article. Thanks for the read.

Very interesting. I've been shooting my 6.5 140 ELDMs at 20 thousandths jump in my HMR (I can't really load them much longer and still fit the mag) and have been curious to see what results a longer jump may produce. How do the ELDMs respond to this?

I’ve found 140 eldm on several barrels liked 20 to 30 off for me.

I have found nodes jumped further but all shot best between 20. to 30. This was on a MPA , Tikka ctr and Krieger barrels.

How does jump affect the node if you load for the rifle?
Finding jump is part of creating a load for your rifle. There are tons of things you can do to increase the accuracy and consistency in your handloads but the primary ones are seating depth and powder charge imo. How far your willing to go to with your handloads all depends on how accurate your rifle is, how accurate you are as a shooter and what you consider as “acceptable” in regards to accuracy.
