Maybe this is a stupid rookie question but this has never happened to me before.

I was shooting a buddies Christiansen Arms AR 223 last weekend. I shot about half a magazine at a moderate speed. When I went to unload I dropped the mag out and tried to pull the charging handle back. It wouldn’t budge. We were finally able to pull it open with quite a bit of force. Once it opened, powder went everywhere and the case popped out but the billet stayed in the rifling.

What would cause this? It was factory 55 grain ammo.

Tight chamber?

I had this issue with a pistol.

My Sphinx SDPc would be very difficult to unchamber a round. It would pull the bullet from the case and spit powder everywhere. Never had a failure to fire or a failure to extract but I couldn't have this nonsense in a carry pistol so I sent it into Kriss. They have very tight tolerances so they reamed the chamber out a bit more and sent it back. No issues since.

Not sure if that is what is going on with you or not.
