Agree with you. Of the many bullet brands I've tried, Sierra is generally the least picky about seating depth which is one of the many reasons I stay with them. Match bullets are always the exception to the rule because I've found that ALL match bullets are picky, as they should be. Don't get me wrong, there are several great bullet makers out there.

168 and 175 SMKs shoot the best out of my Rem 700 at .005 to .030 off. Really not that much difference of accuracy. IF you're having problems, there are a # of factors that come into play AND one's rifle may not like boattails.

Agreed. My FN PBR likes 168 and 178gr AMAX's touching the lands. It likes 168grSMK about .010" backed off.

I worked it up by using identical powder charges and seating bullets in relation to the lands at .000"(on lands), .005, .010, .015 and .020 (all plus or minus .002, I reckon) and shot them all and determined the best results.

At 100 yrds I've had bugholes with a REM 700 sps tactical 20" McMillan stock sure fire muzzle brake 2.800 inches oal with varget 44.5 grs in win brass & win primer

Also excellent results with 43 grs IMR4895 same brass & primer.

These loads shot well out to 600... Ymmv. Just one dudes load results.

I'd bet 8-15 thou off you'd have great excellent results there too. IMHO It's not to far off but if your trying to get close to the lands why not try 8 off or less maybe jam?, unless its about to fall out of the case neck or won't fit your mag....
