Hi all,

Just acquired an XCR compact in 223 and I'm wondering with the 1-9" twist will the rifle accomodate the 75 gr HPBT Hornadays or will I be limited to the 69 SMK and under?

Re: Bullet Weight for Remington 700 XCR Compact 223

you can shoot the Hornady 75gr HPBT's fine...i do, a lot.
the 77gr SMK's and 70gr VLD's have been said to shoot fine...i haven't tried.

the 68gr and 69gr HPBT and SMK's shoot great..

my best groups have all been with my cheapest load (0.2moa @ 100yds-4shots from bag/bipod/bench):
50gr z-max (v-max...)
24.5gr of WC844
COL at 2.210" at meplat (i do ogive now...i'll get that measurement)
WSR
LC brass trimmed too short (1.740)

i've shoot decent groups with the 68's, 60 vmax, 52gr amax, and 53gr HPBT (i shoot 99% hornady bullets)...nothings given me issues, as of yet.

I'm ordering 40gr vmax, 75gr amax, 80gr amax (no chance), and maybe some other stuff to try as well

btw, shooting an SPS tactical

i've had good success with the 75gr hornady HPBT in my remington 1-9 (LTR) barrel. mine also shoots the 77gr SMK, but a friend with the exact same rifle cannot.

75gr hornady AMAX is a no-go.
