Rifle Scopes Burris Signature Zee Rings question

I have a Ruger M77 tang rifle. I am limited in the bases/rings that I can use due to the mounting system that Ruger employes. I do not wish to have my action drilled and tapped for a rail, so I plan on getting a Ruger to Weaver adapter and Burris Signature Zee rings.

I am buying a 30mm scope and I would like to use the Posi-Align insert concept to get some additional MOA up for longer range shooting. It looks to me as if Burris only make the insert kit for the 1" scopes, but the 30mm rings come with zero and +/- 0.010" inserts.

So with my 30mm rings, can I use a -0.010" insert in one and a + 0.010" insert in the other to get more up? How much MOA up does that translate into compared to a Picattiny rail?

It depends on the distance they are apart. There's a website with the formula's on the internet somewhere. Here's one link:

Using both will get you roughly 10 moa. Just depends on your base and how far your rings are apart. I used the +10 in the rear and the 0 in the front. That is all I needed to get my scope a few minutes from the bottom of the adjustment range - that's with my 20 moa base.

They work great and do not mark your scope at all. I use them on several hunting rigs. Spence

You can't use the +0.010 and -0.010 in different rings. Those must be paired together to get a 0.010 offset. If you try to install each with a 0 insert half, one ring will end up tight and the other loose.

I just put a set of 1" Zee rings with Pos-Align inserts on my CZ452 varmit to get ~30MOA (-20 bottom front and +10 bottom rear). You should be able to get ~20MOA if you put the -10 insert in the bottom of the front half ring and the +10 insert in the bottom half of the rear ring (-10 to +10 yields a +20 net difference). If you only want ~10MOA use the zero insert in the rear ring. Hope that helps.

Howdy bunsen27, hope you dont mind me resurrecting an ancient thread. I am about to install my sig zee rings and want to better undertand your next to last sentence. I do indeed only want 10moa total, and I understand using the the -10 on the bottom of the front ring (and thus +10 on the top of the front ring). Where I get lost is the rear ring insert selection. If you use both zero inserts in the rear ring, won't the scope get torqued in the rear ring? In other words, the front ring +/- 10 inserts puts the scope tube anging downward, but wouldn't the rear ring zero inserts expect the scope tube to be running straight or flat, if you know what I mean. Am I overthinking this? Do the zero inserts in the rear ring "flex" enough to match the angle established by the front ring inserts? I was expecting to need to maintain that angle in the rear ring by using the +10 in the bottom rear ring (and the -10 in the top rear ring). I believe you are correct but can you help me understand why the scope isnt getting torqued up in the back?

One last question, does it matter which direction the inserts are facing? I understand the impact of ROTATING them in the rings and am not talking about that. Im just talking about how the inserts are placed in there. i.e. when looking down on scope from the rear of gun, do you want the +/- 10 writing on the inserts to be right side up or upside down? Hopefully doesnt matter. Dang instructions dont explain anything......

edit...the Burris instructions are very lacking...I am hoping for confirmation from you wise ones on the forum
