anyone run this scope? how do you like it? I am thinking of mounting one on my 20" AR-15. I shoot 70gr berger bullets at 2,900fps. will I want the ballistic mil-dot or the standard mil-dot?. seems like the ballisic mill dot would not match up that well with the ballistics of the rounds I run. Is 12 power enough to get me out to 600+ yards on coyotes? How do you like the Illuminated reticle? I thought about going with the 4-16X but I would lose some eye reliefe and I worry that the scope would get in the way of my charging handle...

I have a couple of them and they are great entry level scopes. The ballistic mil-dot runs fairly true with quite a few rounds. As with all BDC reticals you will have to shoot it to see exactly were it is going to impact. I have one on the same set up you are talking about and usually run BlackHills 77 gr BTHP and can run our steel course from 200 to 500 with only using the hold over points of the retical. Also dial dope and they are resetable. No Zstops but when you zero the turrets to your zero you can turn the dial and line it up with the "0" hash mark on the turret body. There by having a stationary point to start from and keep track of the number of complete revelutions. I like the BDC for hunting when you want a quicker shot and have a solid aiming point. I also like the covered turrets for a hunting rig that I am going to carry and take in and out of the pick-up. The BDC is nice since it has covered turrets too.

You are running a .223 loosing a little eye relief shouldnt be a big problem. If you think you want/need more magnification go for it. As far as getting in the way of the charging handle, put a BO TacLatch on and rack it with a fist.

FYIW: The 4-16 I have calabrates at just a tick over 12x, and the 3-12 is just high of 10x.

I noticed that Leupold makes a Mark 4 LR/T 4.5-14 with an illuminated reticle though it is about $400 more. would it be a better scope? I am new to higher end scopes, my pop was a simmons man growing up....
