have had a peek about and used the search function without much luck, as this is the scope at the top of my list to get atm considering my budget and such just curious on user opinions,

have you used one?

the usual spiel! for the price i think its coimpetition down under atm would be the obvious vortex and lower end nightforce deals maybe some leupold scopes etc.

Agreed. I like mine a lot. I picked it up used from a good friend who gave me a smoking deal on it. I really like it. The SCR Mil reticle is great. Nice and simple, thin and clean. It works great for me. My one complaint would be it has a picky eye-box for me. However, if I'm behind the rifle correctly, that's not really an issue. I almost bought a second one this black friday sale, but decided to move up to the Razor II for a new rifle. However, I really do like the Burris and if you can pick it up on sale or used, it's a great deal for a great scope.

Have the 4-20 in SCR-MIL. I have read the reports about the subpar glass quality, but haven't had any issues with mine. Not sure it can be beat for the price and features. Now I did just recently pickup a Nightforce ATACR 7-35 and it is definitely a notch up on glass quality, but also a notch up on price vs the Burris.

I have a couple of the 3-15 g2b that are hunting rifle scopes and i just love them. If they were lighter, i would take off my zeiss v4 4-16 and put another one on my lightweight kimber rifle. I also have a 4-20 SCR and 5-25 SCR on target rifles. I really like them a lot, two of them have absolutely excellent glass, one is very good and one is adequate. All of them have excellent turrets.

They're good, and the glass isn't bad, it's not as good at resolving as the next tier of scope, but hasn't been an issue hitting targets. I've shot and looked through my brother in law's XTRII plenty. It's a good scope for the price.

I have two and one more on the way. XTR II SCR 2x10, 3x15 and a 5x25 on the way. I’m not on the level of some here but I haven’t had a problem with them. They have been very reliable for hunting, shooting steel and a couple sniper challenges.

I got in a 1.5-8 model this week. It’s nice.. I got it mounted up. This one has the dual focal plane reticle, where the illuminated circle is SFP and the actual reticle with hashes is FFP. Going to take a little getting used to, as well as figuring out the proper eyepiece focus at magnification in lieu of any parallax adjustment.

But, at the price I paid ($550 New) I think it’s going to end up being a winner.

I'll beg to differ a bit. For me, I'd rather have the SWFA 3-15 if build quality is at a premium. If it isn't, almost any other optic in this price range will have better glass, some considerably better.

If you want relatively low price, good build quality, and high magnification, then mediocre glass is the price you pay, and that's kind of just how it is. If you want better glass, I'd suggest you go with something like the Bushnell LRHS, SWFA HD 5-20, Athlon Cronus, or PST Gen 2. The difference in glass quality between the XTR and those scopes is not insignificant.

The turrets on the SWFA aren't great compared to everyone else in the price range. FX-1000, Midas Tac, XTRII, There are some real nice full feature optics around 700.

I'll jump in here too.... I'm a new guy to the Hide, but, I've lurked around here a long time. I have 2 XTRII's. One is the 4-20, the other is 5-25. both with the SCR reticle. I do like the SCR reticle. The turrets are solid, & seem to track very well. And, yes, as others have said, built very well. In all fairness, I must also say that i have 2 Nightforce scopes. An older NXS, & a Gen 1 ATACR. My biggest problem with the XTRII's is the glass!!! And I'll add that the Eyebox on both mine are VERY TIGHT, meaning, I have to have my head in the exact perfect spot, to be able to see anything through either scope!!!!! Also, when I got the 4-20, which I got first, I realized I needed to lower the power to around '15-18' to get a decently clear picture. So, I got the 5-25. to be able to have a 'usable' 20x. I truly wished that these scopes had a bit nicer glass, & they would be a much better package. And to be perfectly honest, my 66+year old eyes aren't the best anymore... One more issue, theres something amiss with the newer 5-25, as it eats batteries for the illuminated reticle. The 4-20 still has the original battery after a 1 1/2 years. Just my $0.02 worth............. Idaho-5R

awesome to get some other takes on it appreciate it, i mean in my money down here an xtr is around the 2k mark, and somthing like an ATACR nightfdorce is on my mind also but thats nearly an extra 2k on top maybe a bit less depending on reticle and so on and i know the old cry once buy once deal...

its a hard thing to decide on if i can get somthing in great nick used or slight blemish i will im keeping my eyes peeled for a bargain but i do agree.

to me i like what the xtr offers but im not in love with the reticles and thats where nightforce kills it their mil hash mark reticle is nice and clear and un cluttered and somthing that screams to me but the SCR is very usable but doesnt speak to me as much, i if anything prefer the G2B but it seems a lot more chunky and it could have been a far better reticle than it appears.

Its hard to know prices down under. The level plex in the sig tango, is a more simple reticle with half mil hashes. The G3 or G2H in the Bushnell's might be more to your liking.

I'd call the turrets firm. They are good for the price point, but not excellent. Excellent would be Steiner, S&B, Nightforce. Crisper, audible and more tactile.

The glass was much better in my new production 5-25 than it was in the original 8 mil turret 3-15 and 4-20 i got when they rolled out the XTRII.

I think it depends on what you are going for, glass or features. For features and turrets, my XTRII is my favorite scope. But as others have said, the glass leaves some to be desired. With that being said, my sightron SIII has amazing glass but the features are the worst. If I had to pick between my XTR and SIII, I’d take my XTR. I’d take just about anything over my sightron honestly.

Can't say mine have ever turned accidentally on my 16x, 3-15, or 5-20 HD. They're not the most tactile turrets in the world, but they're all about the same in this price range except I like the PST2 a little better.

Honestly, IMHO, turrets are so much less of a deciding factor than significant differences in glass quality and build quality (comparing Japanese SWFA to Chinese Athlons isn't super valid to me). But to each their own I suppose.

I sold mine and replaced it with an Athlon Cronus, better reticle, better glass, IMO. Burris has better turrets but just wasn't sharp even after I sent it in for repair. I'd take my Athlon Ares over another XTRII 5-25.

Shooters from all disciplines have been hitting targets waaaay the fuck out there, for many decades now, with glass that would be considered far inferior by todays standards. It is the recent gains in accurate tracking that have made the math all line up with the ballistic apps.

If you find a scope that is repeatable and tracks with less than 1% error...what are the chances that the glass won't be up to the task?

I remember being at SHOT years ago, in the not too distant past, and approaching Burris about FFP tactical scopes. When I asked the reps if they were coming out with one for the next year they were grinning at me like a smashed cat on a highway, meaning they didn't even seem to know what FFP was and had no intention at the time.

I guess we can't point the finger anymore too much among the different scope Co's, as it seems all/most are making good improvements to their line up or bringing out new improved lines yearly.

Turning what were once weaknesses into strengths.

I must say I do like my one Burris scope, a 1-8 xtr2 FFP.

LOL, I don't pick a scope purely based on country of origin. I pick it based on a reticle I like, its reputation for top-notch reliability, the and then consider what features I'm getting after that. Chinese scopes don't have a reputation for reliability that I consider acceptable at this price point. I will say that my two favorite scopes in this price range are the SWFA HD and Cronus, both of which are built in Japan in the same factory if I'm not mistaken, and both have good reputations for quality and reliability.

Just to be clear, I'm a mechanical engineer for my day job. I can appreciate quality production operations. The chinese-made optics have shown to be much less reliable, and show more sample to sample variation, which is indicative of poor QC and non-repeatable processes that are poorly controlled. In a game where the top two requirements are having reliable operation/tracking, and being able to see targets far away as clearly as possible, then sacrificing build quality and glass quality for features seems like a silly trade to me. But that's JMHO.

I actually agree with this. My issue is the glass quality of the XTR2 compared to other options at the price point. SWFA 3-15 is cheaper with similar glass, and built better. Anything at the same price point is going to have better glass, and some like the LRHS, PST2, Cronus, and SWFA HD 5-20 are going to have significantly better glass.

I'm not saying the XTR is un-useable. It's just inferior.

No. XTRII is far superior than an sfp ATACR.

My 4-20 xtr will keep up with any scope in its price range, except... the SHV F1 I had just traded. It blew the Burris away in the glass department. It’s not on the same level as Nightforce. The Burris just has better features for me, and good enough glass.

Burris is made in the Philippines to start. Next what price point? SWFA is 1500 Cronus BTR 1700.

Where are you getting enough samples of these chinese scopes to make what you say reliable? Your day job has no relevance to the conversation, unless its for one of these chinese scope companies.
