Burris Xtreme Tactical Scope 6X-24X-50mm

http://www.burrisoptics.com/xtrtactical.html

Thinking I may get one of these. Anyone have any experience with this exact scope? I have a Burris fullfield II ballistic plex and have been very pleased. Any and all input is appreciated. And no I am not able to put down $1500 on a nightforce. ha. I might as well address that now. This seems like a good choice for the money though.

"warranteed forever"

Hmmm...two ways of looking at that...I guess then it comes down to "How's Burris CS?" I have heard mixed reviews over the last couple of years on Burris quality. What I have personally looked thru(worked in a gunshop), seemed decent for the price but I have no actual personal experience of banging one around in the woods either so take it for what its worth.... I too would like to hear of some hands on time w/ these. That 3-12 in coyote/o.d. is sexy tho!

Re: Burris Xtreme Tactical Scope 6X-24X-50mm

Ive called customer service once to get a price for installing turret knobs on my fullfield II. They answered the phone first try and were pretty helpful. I havent sent my scope in yet though for it to actually happen yet, so we will see when I actually do. From what I have read so far, this scope seems well made, but I will be the first to say that I dont know as much about optics as I wish I did.

I have a 3-12x and it is a good scope for the money. It has good glass and it tracks well. Only true complaint is that the location of the illumination adjustment allows it to easily be turned on while adjusting the parallax, but that is not a big deal and would probably go away with additional time behind scope. The turrets allow user to truely "zero" the knobs, both on the dial and the revolution lines below the dial - fairly innovative.

For what they cost and what they are, I have no problem recommend them to anyone.

+1. I had the 3-12 XTR, and liked it. I had it on my hunting rifle and sold it only to get a lighter scope. But it was a great scope.

Re: Burris Xtreme Tactical Scope 6X-24X-50mm

I have the 6-24X50 with 1 moa clicks elevation and ¼” windage.
I put it on my 22,250. It is actually a pretty nice scope and it looks good . It has very small Allen screws on the turret zero adjustments so I have to be careful not to strip them out.

The only thing I don’t like is the reticle is a little thick for my liking but the scope has performed great so far.

Great pic sniper6. Its helpful to look at one that close. I noticed some of them have illumination. Is that only on the low powered XTR, or does yours have it as well?

Re: Burris Xtreme Tactical Scope 6X-24X-50mm

I've got the 1/4 moa model, after 2 rounds the parallax knob locked and the advertised elevation is 79 moa, mines only got 68.5. I sent it back and they did loosen the parallax knob but it still binding around the 150 - 200 yd marks. Received a letter that stated this is a new scope that does't have the advertised elevation, it was in a plex scope box and had 1 moa knobs with it. Customer service stinks, but the optics are clear, try your luck, get a sightron or save for something better!

Re: Burris Xtreme Tactical Scope 6X-24X-50mm

I have a 6-24x50, and had a 3-12x50 which I sold to a buddy. Both had really good glass for the price point... at least as clear as the Leupold Mk4 that I had. I also prefer the turret feel on the XTRs over the Mk4's. Maybe I had a bad Mk4, but the M1 turret clicks felt somewhat mushy and not so positive to me. The XTRs feel pretty nice.

After about 300 rounds on a 50 cal (Barrett 99), and a couple hundred on a 300 RUM, the elevation turret on my 6-24 lost it's "click resistance". Basically you could dial elevation without any real resistance. It wasn't quite free-spinning, but just about. The scope was dialing elevation by itself under recoil because the turret was spinning. I called up Burris, they said send it back, no problem. About 3 weeks or so later it was back on my doorstep. They replaced the entire elevation assembly and went over the whole scope. Good as new. I called once in that three weeks to check on the status. Both the first time I spoke to them and the status check they were helpful and courteous. The scope was fixed no questions asked and for no charge. I have no complaints about their CS. This was a month or so ago.

Now, obviously I would have preferred that the scope never break. However, I'm not too disappointed in it given the pounding it took on the 50, and then the ultra mag, before it let go. Couple that with the price point, and the warranty, and they are pretty good buys IMO. The glass really is pretty nice to my eye.

Incidentally, I'm considering selling it while it's still basically new as received back from Burris, but haven't really decided yet.

Re: Burris Xtreme Tactical Scope 6X-24X-50mm

I honestly cant remember what I sent my Black Diamond in for but I do remember it was back on my doorstep, fixed, 10 days after I shiped it. They also cleaned, relubed and gave it a fresh nitro recharge, no cost.

okie

Re: Burris Xtreme Tactical Scope 6X-24X-50mm

For the price range of $870 or so, is there another scope you would have bought instead of the burris xtreme tactical? I am not finding one that is better for the price, but let me know if you think different. I am planning on putting it on a AR-30 .338 lapua.

Re: Burris Xtreme Tactical Scope 6X-24X-50mm

I have both the XTR312 and the XTR624 the only complaint I have is the 1" elevation knob on the 6-24. It makes fine adjustment a little tough unless you get lucky but it does limit the rotation for significant elevation. I think if they would have offered 1/4" elevation on the 6-24 when I got it...I would have it. No other gripes.

Oh and I paid alot more than 870 or so for mine 2-3 years ago.

Re: Burris Xtreme Tactical Scope 6X-24X-50mm

I would say another option in that range that I especially like and recommend is the Bushnell Elite 4200 tactical 6-24x50.Nice large solid knobs, very good glass,1/4 moa clicks, repeatable, sadly mil/moa.Good glass for the money ( 600-700 range).

Re: Burris Xtreme Tactical Scope 6X-24X-50mm

I have a NF NXS, and a Burris 3-12x50 XTR and a Bushnell elite 6500. The NF will give about five more minutes of shooting at dusk. But the Burris and the 6500 are right there with it on clarity. Only issue with the 6500 VS the XTR is to me the 6500's dials are more mushy feeling than the XTR. Also the eye relief is great on the XTR TM
