Re: Bushmaster ACR Update
I talked with a rep today at SHOT who told me they would start production of the rifles at 500 rifles the first month and then ramp up that number to 750 over several months. He then told me that I was the "lucky one" because despite limited quantity & a higher cost than expected, he being a Bushmaster employee, wouldn't be able to order one until they were off backorder - which he estimated to be 2 1/2 - 3 years. I had to laugh at him.
Not only that, but the cheek weld piece is raised by sliding the cheek piece which forces a plastic cylindrical "tab" (for lack of a better word) on each side of the stock through a plastic on plastic "pinch point" (think of using a paper punch to punch two holes in a piece of paper that only slightly overlap so that a pinch point is created where the two circles meet and that is what it looks like on both sides).
I asked him what would happen when the plastic contact points dulled and the cheek piece would cease to be held securely either up or down & he claimed that "it could never happen" and disregarded my question.
Now here is the thing, I noted that when I first dropped by the booth early on day one, it was incredibly tight (still thought it was a bad idea, but it was tight) - tight enough that I thought that I was manipulating it wrong. Today, on the other hand, it was pretty damn easy to manipulate - which is why I posed the question about it. I know that that's several thousand manipulations in a short period of time, but it's still something I noticed right away as being a potential issue. Small - sure, but weak I thought.
Not that I'll be getting one for myself anyway - I'd rather go with a POF for that money.
