Fellas i was looking at the Bushnell 4200 6-24x50 tactical last night and i thought it looked like a decent scope for a fella like myself. I did a search here trying to find some info on this scope but i didnt come up with much. There isnt any tactical matches in my area at all so my tactical 6x47L with AICS rifle will be used for long range coyote hunting. I need something with some hash marks to TRY and make shots out to around 5-600 yards. I also looked at the Vortex Viper. Can anyone shed some light on the 4200 tactical 30mm scope? I am sure it doesnt have a lot of elevation but the 6x47L wont need as much as say a 308. I also have a 20MOA base on my stiller predator action. Any info would be helpful. Thanks fellas. Lee

I've got one although I use it as a back up scope. Or if I build a new rifle and can't afford the scope I want for it, this goes on until I get the prefered scope. It tracks just fine but the the reticle is a little thick for my taste.

ditto to the above comments. I have one on a .308 with a 20MOA base. The recticle is thick compared to the SS16X I have on another rifle (the only other tactical scope I have mounted). The internal adjustment is lacking compared to the SS16X, but shouldn't be a problem. I only shoot to 600yds with the power set on 12 and have no problem getting there but I have no idea how much further I can go. I have about 3/4 more revolution though. Optics are good. Tracks well, I go from 300 to 600 and back frequently when I shoot and have no problems (approximately 500 rds to date). The parallex adjustment is ok as well. Hope this helps.

Well, here goes nothing!

I don't have that particular 4200, but the ones I do have, have been good. You brought up the Viper, which is a very good scope. I did put a Viper through several box tests over the last few weeks and it tracked very well. I was really impressed with it! Good luck!

Re: Bushnell 4200 tactical. any good?

I like mine. It's on my 10/22. Pretty clear glass, bright, tracks well, but not much adjustment range.

One of the coolest features is that it doesn't fog up. Has some kind of spiffy coating to keep that from happening, and it seems to work well.

I never thought the subtension of the reticle was too thick. Most reticles are too thin. I'm not shooting benchrest, so why have hard to see reticles? I've never lost the reticle. I think thin reticles cause more eyestrain.

Re: Bushnell 4200 tactical. any good?

Skeetlee,

I have a Bushy 4200 6-24x50mm, and for a SFP Mil/MOA scope it is a very good one. I have mine mounted on a Kimber 22lr that I use for squirrel sniping, and 22lr comps.

Yes, the reticle is a bit thick, but I like that for hunting purposes, as it does not get lost @ 6x in the timber at near dark. I can also get a good parallax free focus down to 25 yards. So it's great for rimfire work.

It has a measured 48MOA available for adjustment. I have a 0 MOA base, but use Burris Signature Zee Rings for 10 MOA of cant.

It tracks well, and the glass is very good, much better than the Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10x50mm AO EFR it replaced.

For SFP glass it is one of the more useful one's around. Bushnell set the correct mildot ranging @ 12x. But at 24x it is exactly 0.5 mils between the dots. At 6x it is exactly 2 mils between the dots. That really gives you three powers which you can range at without a lot of mental gymnastics.

The only change I would make if I were king at Bushnell would be to have mil instead of 1/4" click adjustments, and it's a big sucker with the sunshade attached.

Here's a picture:

I keep on thinking of selling it, but I have not found a suitable variable replacement with mil/mil that has glass as good in it's price range. I guess I hold on to it for a bit.

I think that about covers it.

Re: Bushnell 4200 tactical. any good?

I had one, not great glass beyond about 17X.

The elevation adjustment (or lack thereof) was why I got rid of mine.

On a very positive note: they have a "no questions asked" 1-year guarantee: if you decide you don't want it in the first year, they will refund full purchase price. I had my refund check in about 4 weeks.

For the money, it ain't bad, but it is not for a serious long-range gun. In my opinion.

Re: Bushnell 4200 tactical. any good?

I had one for a brief period but the glass was just not up to my expectations and I sold it. I'd previsously had the 4200 6-24x40 1" tube scope and it had great glass and was assuming because the tactical model was a 4200 it would be the same. It wasn't. I might have just gotten a dud.

Re: Bushnell 4200 tactical. any good?

I have one on my 308. You get what you pay for..it'll get you by and it depends on your standards. When I have the cash, I'll buy some better glass like leupy, S&B, USO and put my 4200 on my ar15 w/the bull barrel. I shot my first comp and placed 12th out 25 using that scope. .....whatever floats your boat.....???

Re: Bushnell 4200 tactical. any good?

I have 2 of these scopes and like them very much. Both are mounted on AR's...one a 308 and the other a varmint .223 rig.Very nice glass, solid, repeatable, robust turrets, good feel to them.Only con I could say is limited adjustment but it's fine for me.In their price range I don't think you could do better, maybe equal them but it's a see-saw.You might gain adjustment range but lose optically? I have yet to see anything in their price that makes me say " holy shit I should'a bought that instead".Yes, I have looked thru many different scopes and am not "sold" on any particular brand.Well, maybe NF....

I've compared the 4200 to my Mark 4 and it is every bit the equal...

Re: Bushnell 4200 tactical. any good?

I did not like the glass in mine at all. It tracked well and had enough adjustment to 1k and beyond with a 6mm Ackley though. I liked the mil-dots, and reticle overall.

Re: Bushnell 4200 tactical. any good?

One thing I have to say is that if you crank it all the way to 24x and try and look at something at either 50-100yds it will look terrible. Looks better when it's looking at stuff farther out. Also seems to be more effected by atmospheric conditions like high humidity than my high end optics. Most all of these effects are on anything above 18-20x and are exhibited as chromatic aberration. Still the resolution is there to see bullet holes, etc.

When I first got mine, I was disappointed. Later, I realized it wasn't that bad. (After owning a bunch of different high end optics.)

Here's a pic that's exaggerated since I suck at taking pics through scopes. It was very humid that day with light coming from a low angle behind my shooting position. Berm is 200+yds out. Target is at 100yds.

I think this is all a product of them trying to get as much adjustment range in the form of parallax and magnification as possible.

Re: Bushnell 4200 tactical. any good?

I have one on a .308 FN SPR. I think its great scope for the money. Very clear to me. I agree that it looses some resolution above 18x or so. I've only shot out to 600 yards with it. I'm usually at 12X or 18X. It tracks well and always comes back to zero. If can get over that is not mil/mil I think its a great scope, considering that the OP doesn't plan on tactical competition. I think its a great choice. I would love to see someone do a head to head comparison with this scope and the new Weaver FFP tactical.

Re: Bushnell 4200 tactical. any good?

I have one on my 223. Good glass, fogproof, positive clicks, good looking scope. Reticle is just a touch thick and mine only has 48 MOA adjustment as well. I like it for the money. I wish SS had the same variable power as this scope.

Re: Bushnell 4200 tactical. any good?

I have one and for the money I think it's a very good scope. As stated above it's biggest downfall is lack of elevation adjustment. The glass compares well with my Leupold for the money and it holds zero and tracks great.
