I ran across this Bushnell Elite 4200 8-32 on Ebay that sold for $610 . I didn't realize these were in such high demand? Why are these so desirable?

Ya it's not a 1000yd scope even with a 20moa rail. But Fine w if staying under 600yds. Only scope that I felt had normal glass quality, never really thought about how good it was until I was spending 2and 3x more money on twisty knobs and and bells and whistles just to get lesser quality glass. Pisses me off.

For OP, do you need the top end 32x magnification? If you do, OK.
It is SFP scope if I remember correct. Are you OK with that?
Look for classified here and see if you can get a real elite tactical?

Meh. For the money, or 100 more you can get something way better. Midas Tac, Nikon FX-1000, Ares BTR, and Steiner PX4i, can all be had new around that price. None of them give up anything to to the 4200s I have owned. The ones I had were 2.5-10, great little hunting scopes with pretty good "glass." What was "good glass" 20 years ago, is run of the mill today. IMO.

When I auctioned them on Ebay, I was surprised what they brought. You always have to remember on auctions though. One may go for 610, and the next might go for 310.

We will see I have a pst 2 and a Aries BTR on the way.
All I know is a Burris XTR /Stenier T5xi was not as good glass wise. Maby I got a really nice 4200, no idea. I thought it was ordinary/just good back when I got it.
My experience may differ than yours.

I know these scopes are highly regarded by the target shooting community - both rimfire and centerfire. Weavers were popular alternatives, but they're out of production and remaining inventory has gone up in price.

I think someone in that market would be well served by a Sightron SIII 8-32x or 10-50x, but they're obviously a lot more expensive..

A lot of target shooters like them because of the light weight. They do alright in silhouette type shooting, for example, since you do not need a lot of adjustment range.

Optically these were quite good, although I thought 6-24x40 was a bit better. These are very long which allows you to get away with comparatively simple construction and still have good image quality.

I believe that the older version of this scope was from Baush&Lomb, then Bushnell bought the Co.
That scope in particular was one of the winningest Field Target air rifle scopes for many years. I've had both that model and the 6-24 version. My good friend used it to win the FT nationals 2 years ago.

Yes, a huge downside is the very small amount of elevation and windage travel. Great glass and a well made scope with 1/8th moa turrets if you want a limited use target scope.
