Gent's,

My local dealer has one of these lightly used for $600.00. I'm planning to check it out tomorrow (I'm not sure if it's a 1st or 2nd focal plane). Therefore, my question is, is this a decent price? Also, is this specific scope good to go before I drop the coin?

I recently returned what I believe is the same scope, G2DMR, due to the reticle looking like it was etched with a chisel (maybe exaggerating a bit) and the poor optical quality. My newlywed agreed since it was for her new rifle, she had more of an issue with the optical quality than the reticle. She kept holding her hand over her opposite eye to aid in concentrating on the eye looking through the scope. Lesson learned, don't show someone what quality glass looks like (Steiner 5x25 and a couple of Zeiss Victory) and try and buy them something of lesser quality! In reality, for $800 I expected something a bit better. It is possible that the scope I had was defective, just take a long look before dropping the cash.

Thanks for the input guys...well, I ended passing on the glass. I had to adjust the ocular eye piece focus a lot to get a clear & distinct reticle picture. I actually had to screw it in all the way until it stopped, to clear things up + play with parallax. On my other scopes (NF & Vortex) there's always room for adjustment in & out once I get a good focus on the reticle. I just wasn't comfortable with making the purchase on this one. It may be normal on this glass, but, I didn't want to chance encountering any issues at the range with a poor focusing scope.

The Bushnell elite has a one year money back guarantee for the original owner which is not a warranty just an offer to buy it back if you don't like it or wish you had gotten something else. The warranty is forever after that and not limited to the original owner. Hope that helps.

I'd like to see that in a Bushnell format as the one I posted -stating warranty is ONLY for original owner
I like Bushnell -only thing that keeps me from buying another is the warranty -or lack thereof

Bushnell will always have my business, here is a little story explaining why, for everyone who is interested..

To make the story short, I bought a Elite Tactical 4200 3-12x44mm FFP back in 2011, it was originally priced at $9XX.XX, but Midway was running a closeout sale for $606+shipping. I grabbed the last one in stock, loved it for a long time. Within the last year I had a small problem getting the crosshairs to focus, they would be blurry, sometimes transparent and couldnt focus. I put up with this for a long time, finally sent it in about 2 weeks ago. They deemed the scope unusable, unrepairable, and needing replaced. The lady I worked with was an amazing customer support agent, very helpful. I asked asked about a possible upgrade, and she informed me that they still valued my scope at the $9XX tag, and I paid under a $100 difference to upgrade to a new 6-24x50mm ERS and within a week it was at my door.

Bushnell never asked if I was the original owner, which I was, but honored their warranty on the Elite product line of scopes, and made a believer out of me.

Many more purchases coming your way guys, thanks again Bushnell.

Bushnell ET products have a lifetime warranty.
Being as they do not ask for or require a receipt for warranty coverage, there is no way that they could even enforce an "original owner only" warranty.

$600 is an excellent price on that scope.
I sold a used one for $800 within the last few months.
I'd take a Bushnell ET over a Viper PST anyday, even without the PST's zero stop and illumination.

35Fan, it's not an HDMR, the HDMR is the 3.5-21x50 with a Horus reticle.
As for little hairs on the reticle, my $3200 Steiner 5-25 has them on its MSR reticle.
It's not uncommon on an etched reticle.
It does not interfere with the function of the scope at all.

I think the OP passed up a deal they wont get again...Even if it was a turd, he could have sent it in and been a happy customer in the end. Bushnell doesnt make people walk away unhappy..

And it's a moot point being as Jerry R at the Virginia service center will probably take care of any problems you have with a technically-out-of-warranty S&B scope (within reason) at little or no cost.
Nevertheless, as I pointed out earlier, with Bushnell's warranty coverage of their Elite Tactical scopes, they do not require proof of purchase with a warranty claim.
Even if you were the 3rd owner, they will warranty it, but I'd recommend against telling them you're the 3rd owner.

I've had a handful of Bushy ET scopes (and still own 2) and they are really good for the money.
Not the best glass, but easily good enough for 99% of the situations you'd need to take a shot in.

I had an S&B PMII 5-25 and while it is an impressive piece, I did sell it. I have a lot more interest in buying another Bushy ET than another S&B... for me it's just not worth investing 2.5-3x as much in the S&B.
For the average guy with the average budget, Bushnell ETs are a good choice IMHO.

After the purchase of a 34mm ET 3.5-21x50 ERS, I decided to find out how the glass of their 6-42x50 G2DMR compared to that of the ERS, so ordered one. I like the 6-24, but have found it necessary to adjust the ocular to its outer limit, just as the OP did. Near as I can tell, the 34mm ERS has better optical quality than the 6-24, though for me, there's not a huge amount of difference. It's easier for me to get a sharply focused image with my Sightron SIIIs than it is with the Bushy 6-24, though my impression is that the Bushnell is slightly brighter than the SIII.

Got to admit - at my age (62), I need the best optical quality I can afford, but at the same time, it's getting harder to judge the differences between the three scopes mentioned above. What I really want to do is get my hands on both the Gen II Vortex Razor HD 4.5-27x56 & Burris' new XTR II 5-25x50, and do a side-by-side comparo with my ERS. If there's a clear winner for my vision, I'll go with it, even if I have to sell a rifle in order to swing the purchase.

I've had 3 ET 6-24s, 3 DMRs, and an XRS.
In addition, I have 2 SMRS (1-6.5).
The glass used in all is the same. Optically they've all been very close. The glass that is upper-middle-of-the-road in a 6-24x scope is really good in a 6.5x, BTW.
The diopter settings for all of them ended up being close enough for me to call them the same.
The best optically seemed to be a DMR with mildot reticle I picked up here used for $875 shipped, and I chalk that up to manufacturing variation. The worst was an HDMR (H59 reticle). Compared side by side with a 6-24x50, the HDMR was noticeably dimmer with lower resolution. Like I said, the same glass and coatings.

You are correct it was not an HDMR, it was the G2DMR (6-24x50), I corrected my post.

As for "little hairs", I have no clue what you are referring to, that wasn't the issue I had with the scope and my Steiner MSR sure doesn't have any "little hairs". I got behind a friends G2DMR this morning and his reticle was much nicer than the one I had. As I said, there were other optical problems with the scope, not just the shitty reticle. My wife is much happier when she looked through her new Razor that I mounted last night and she will get a chance to shoot it tomorrow morning since I sighted it in for her today.
