I just bought a new Bushnell HDMR 3.5-21X50 scope from Scott over at Liberty Optics (highly recommended btw) and mounted it on my Remington 700 in Seekins Precision low rings (.92") and while the clearance of the bell housing of the objective lens is not an issue, the magnification ring appears to come within a few thousandths of an inch of the scope base. The magnification ring does not make contact with the base, but the ridges on the ring come really close.
I tried to upload a video here (please excuse me if it doesn't work right away I am not the greatest with technology but will try to fix it): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lllWvqxLBfA&feature=youtu.be
I discovered prior to going to the range and testing her out, and at the range there was no issue in changing magnification. The reason for this thread is 2 fold, the first being a question: can this become an issue down the line in the future? I typically shoot prone in a sandy environment where the sand is pretty fine and gets all over everything with a slight gust of wind or after firing a couple of rounds. I did a quick search to see if anyone has had similar situation and didn't come up with anything.
I am also posting to make others aware of this combination of these particular rings and this scope because I am seeing that both pieces of equipment are pretty popular. I am aware that not everyone will have the magnification ring directly over there scope base, but mine sits there because for me and the rifle, that is the most comfortable spot with the proper eye relief.
Equipment used is:
Remington 700 in AICS
Seekins Precision Low Rings (.92")
Bushnell HDMR 3.5-21X50 (5 mil turrets, no Zero Stop)
Seekins precision 20 MOA base
Insight is greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance.
