i have questions for someone who has specific experience with the following scopes; bushnell 2.5-16 (42mm tactical or 50mm regular);zeiss conquest 4.5-14x x50; leupold mk4 4.5-14x50. use would be 600yd max for paper shooting with likely only hunting use as a desparation backup if my 6.5 tikka/nikon fails. 308 caliber. 11-12" twist. max i could spend is $800. likely a used scope price that. have 2 308s for sale here and the one that doesn't go first will be the one i keep. both go,then will get another tikka t3. any input on these scopes appreciated. currently have a wotac 4-14 which i might use in this setting or sell.

All three are quality scopes. You need to narrow down the features you are looking for, parrallax adj and style, tube size-max elevation, reticle. The Mark 4 is nice because of teh 30mm tube and a parallax adjustment. First make a short list of your needs and wants on a scope. It will help greatly.

The Zeiss blows the others out of the water in all categories except elevation travel, which is fairly limited. However, a .308 with a 20 MOA base should allow you to get to 1k with it just fine.

If only the Conquest were a 30mm tube with about 100 MOA of elevation travel, I'd buy more of them.

thnaks all. i was leaning zeiss. wanted to see what those with experience with these said. also, thanks for the input re limited elevation travel on the zeiss. somethinig to think about re which gun to keep.

Re: bushnell/zeiss/leupold opinions please

I have and used all 3 and this is what i say, Zeiss, Leupold and Bushnell. I do really like the MK4 in 4.5x14 in a TMR with the illumination for hunting but that is a bit more than what you want to spend. The Bushnell in the 2.5x16 is also a nice scope but wish it was a bit smaller and compact than its current size. Good luck with your purchase.

Re: bushnell/zeiss/leupold opinions please

With all the matched mil/mil setups out there why would you limit yourself three scopes with mixed system? Also why not get FFP? These are both huge benefits to scopes for precision rifles.

For a little over $700 you can get the mil/mil FFP illuminated Weaver tactical 3-15. For about the same price you can get the bushnell elite tactical 3-12 which is also FFP mil/mil and illuminated. For the same price as the MK4 you could pick up a NF NXS 3.5-15X50 with no zero stops and moa/moa.

Those would all be much better choices than the leupold, bushy 6500 or zeiss.

Re: bushnell/zeiss/leupold opinions please

have spent a lot of time here reading posts, asking advice and trying to learn. i think i have it re the advantages for MOST here of mil/mil FFP. have come to the conclusion that these would not be helpful in my situation and would actually be a disadvantage for a bunch of reasons. i have learned that i don't even "need" 30mm vs 1" tubes. 30 is ok,but not critical vs clarity, cost, size, weight and quality of optics overall. thanks for the replies,i'm still listening.

Last year I needed to add three scopes. I did not want to spend too much, so I went for Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20 for the SSG 69 (costed me about $800), and two Bushnell 3200 tactical (4.5-14x42) $300 each for two 6.5x55 bolt

I have to say that the difference in optics in minimal. Bushnell was excellent value for the money

Re: bushnell/zeiss/leupold opinions please

I have been able to use both the zeiss conquest and leopold mk4. With a 0 moa base and zeiss, I could get the 308 out to 725 yds max. The glass was great and seemed to be a good fitting scope for both paper punching and hunting. I do prefer the TMR reticle over the rapid Z.
