butler creek caps POS!!!!! any suggestions?

Re: butler creek caps POS!!!!! any suggestions?

Well if you think the red ones are bad....buy one of the yellow release button ones. Thats total garbage. I will say the ones that came with my IOR 50mm from Scott close like a bank vault. Almost too tight for really easy quiet deployment. But hey the lens is safe for sure.

Re: butler creek caps POS!!!!! any suggestions?

I used the rubber bikini cover for a long time on my M40A1. They work well at keeping water off the lenses too. Just NEVER, EVER store a rifle with the cover in place.

I use BC's on almost all of my rifles now. The USO has USO caps. I replaced the Razor's caps with BC's because the original "Bushwhacker" caps that it came with wouldn't stay closed. The BC's close TIGHT.

I have never broken any, however my teammate has gone through two on his MkIV. Don't know what he is doing, but he keeps snapping them off.

Re: butler creek caps POS!!!!! any suggestions?

i bought my first nice scope from Sportoptics. A nightforce with a 56mm obj. I looked at the chart, the guy at the gun store looked at the chart(the one posted here). i took the cap out of the package and it instantly wont stay shut. wow that works great. i am suprised nobody has come up with something less crappy.

I have BCs on 5 or 6 rifles, but I wish there was something better.

+1

BC caps plain suck for real use. If your rifle only sits in the safe and travels to the covered range for bench shooting, BCs are fine. If you shoot tac comps or even shlep it slung for any distance you will find they tend to pop open and come off the scopes. The rubber bikini caps are the best solution I've seen.

I would like to know why not store the scope with the cover on it as well.
Does it trap moisture in between the cover and the lens?

Re: butler creek caps POS!!!!! any suggestions?

ive simply had issues with the objective end cap sliding off after several strings of firre from recoil and then my coolio ard falls at an angle in there and obscures a lot of light dimming my vision.

I have gone through more than I can recall. Its worse in cold weather. We break em and buy more, really no other option, gotta protect the glass. Certainly though they could build them more HD, another .50 cents worth a plastic certainly couldn't hurt.
