buying .22 ammo to test

Is there a place I can buy multiple brands and types of ammo to test in my rifle instead of buying from several different places?

I guess it really depends on what brands your interested in. Cabellas has a wide range, but mostly not the kinds for precision shooting:

https://www.cabelas.com/catalog/browse/rimfire-ammunition/_/N-1100192/Ns-CATEGORY_SEQ_104536080

A place like Bruno's might be worth you taking a look at:

It all varies by lot of ammo as well. For example, just because when you initially test Lapua Center X and it shoots best, doesn’t mean that the next lot you shoot is going to be just as good. It could be significantly worse. Your best bet is to send your rifle to have it lot tested at Lapua in Arizona or Eley at Killough Shooting in Texas to find the best lot, then purchase a case (5000) of that ammo. They will let you bring previous lots of ammo from different brands to test against theirs. When you run out of that case, do it again. That’s one of the largest pains in smallbore but it’s what you have to do if you’re serious about finding the best ammo.

The variations in the quality of rimfire ammunition caused by the methods of manufacture
have caused me to shift my focus to reloading 223 centerfire for precision shooting.
I haven't stopped shooting rimfire, I just accept that some shots are going to stray off and leave me giggling.
It's inexpensive practice/warmup to send a few boxes of rimfire at 200 yards before setting up my F-class 223.
That way I'm relaxed and focused so as not to waste any of my hand loads. If precision shooting is the objective
rimfire is not the manner I'd choose to attempt it. If inexpensive range time and competition is y'er goal
then rimfire will fill the requirements. Expecting mass produced ammunition to provide consistent results is unrealistic.

Unless you choose to shoot it at say, 30 yards or less. Then ya' ought to be fine.
Most any rimfire ammo is capable of putting one where the crosshairs are at that range.
Except maybe Winchester 22lr....

Thanks for answering, does not help me though. you obviously know nothing about precesion rimfire.

No argument....see the forum handle I use...truth in advertising, eh?
I'm unwilling to spend 7 days a week at the range burning through 15 cases of Tenex a year, just for practice.
Also unwilling to spend another fortune traveling to competitions all across the country.
Then there's the cost of all the attendant shooting related necessities in order to maintain consistent results.
Like custom rifles/tuners/rests/scopes/replacement barrels/wind-i-cators and the endless lot testing needed to find decent ammo.
Nope, never going to be a competitive shootist. I'll stick with being an interested amateur.

Still, even as an amateur, I knew where to purchase high end rimfire ammo
and the location of the factory facilities to test and purchase true match quality 22lr.
Kinda leaves me wondering about your skill/knowledge level, eh? Oooopsie.

Are we having fun yet?

Some people just have more muzzle velocity than others.

Dang...now I'm jealous....that is just a classic one liner....does that fall under the heading of projectile envy?

Shooting community can get sideway with each other so fast.

Naw, that's typical one-upmanship at play.
Two guys swappin' insults is normal male behavior.
Ask my brothers.

Says the person who misspelled precision*. We’ve given you answers and considerations that you haven’t seemed to accept. I can tell you for a fact that some of the best smallbore shooters in the world do exactly what I previously mentioned.

If you’re just looking to buy any .22 ammo of various types, then go to google and start looking. That shouldn’t have to be mentioned. We are under the impression that if you’re looking for precision ammo for your precision rimfire rig then you’re open to learning more ways to do things and that you’re also maturely open to constructive criticism considering you posted this on a forum. So don’t complain or get an attitude when people tell you things that you don’t want to hear.

Misspelled or not, I asked a specific question. several tool the time to Answer that question.

Suggestions about using cci mini mags or shifting to a 223 because of such huge variations in rimfire ammo has nothing to do with what I asked. if my responses upset you or anyone else I dont know what to tell you.

To those who took time to answer and attempt to help, I appreciate it.

Killough carries a good selection, and is great for all the different flavors of Eley. That said, if you watch some of the rimfire forums, you will see guys post up info when a particularly good lot of ammo hits the stores. This can help keep you from burning through too many $15 boxes of .22 trying to find a good lot. I got real lucky on on of my 40x and it loves the cheap Eley Club.

Midway USA is currently listing 102 different kinds of 22 long rifle from 13 different manufacturers.
I live about 20 minutes from them so I pick up my ammo on the way to the range and save the shipping charges.
Living so close to them raises hell with my retirement budget.

Thanks, I've got 2k rounds of sk match left snd am going to rebarrel when I'm done. That will be withing a couple months so I'm trying to find ammo now to test

Do you mind giving us an idea of what other rounds you tested?

S and G ammo. An online store out of Oklahoma. Great guys to buy ammo from. Very fast shipping and great prices. The more you order the better deals on shipping.
