Where have you found to be the best place to buy gold and silver? Seems like the Silver Eagles are around Spot + $4.00. I would prefer to buy Silver Eagles but there seems to be to big of a spread between what you pay and what you sell for. Does anyone know of a place to buy these for say Spot + 10%? I want to trade these and not put them up for the finanacial armeggedon scenerio. Thanks!

Price is down premiums are up!

I believe the mint isn't selling any till next years come out so the premiums are going to be up cause of that too.

There are some good metals forums out there for buying and selling metals and you can get better prices.

Good luck finding them for +10% though. It happens but you have to grab them when available.

Trade as in barter for goods in a meltdown?

I wouldnt go with eagles then, to pricey for what you are wanting to do.

I would go with 90% because its WAY easier to use since its in smaller denominations. Any dimes and quarters from before 1964 are 90% silver and then priced accordingly by the $1(4 quarters, 10 dimes) which you can then break up(1/4, 1/10) to use for trading.

There is also a place that makes 10oz bars that are pre-scored into either 1oz or 1/4oz pieces(cant remember which) for trading purposes.

No, I am not wanting these for the economic meltdown. I want to buy quantitys and sell to the people who are expecting the economic meltdown. Capitalism for profit!

Unless you are buying direct from the mint or from a wholesaler you arent going to get enough of a discount to make much.

OR you have to start buying from local's at the "buy" price and then re-sell at the "sell" price.

The local place I buy from(scoins.com) buys 90% for about a buck less than the sell price. So if you "bought" $100 face value worth you would pay(on their list I just looked at) you would pay $1417. If you then turned and sold it you would get $1525 so you would make $108.

I dont know what they pay the mint for new eagles, but their buy price is about 2 bucks less than the sell price.

So margins appear to be very slim to be able to make much money unless you are working on pure volume.

This place I buy from also deals in numismatics which can bring more money, they also deal in jewelry, watches, etc...

Trying to buy Silver & flip it for a profit is a tough market to be in.
The premium for a silver 1oz minted coin will pretty much always be in the $1 to $4 range for standard coins.
A pretty good source is Lear Capital Gold Prices and Investments | Buy Gold Coins | IRAs | Lear Capital

Here is an example from tonight:
Spot Silver price $19.74
Silver Round $21.53
Canadian Maple Leaf $22.80
American Eagle $23.55

Then for fun, just to note their buy back prices
Silver Round $20.49
Canadian Maple Leaf $20.49
American Eagle $20.74

The above gives you an idea of the profit margins a big seller works on.

Now when bartering or selling in small quantities to end users, it will be much easier to sell a Maple Leaf or an Eagle than a round.

I purchase silver from Quality Silver Bullion (QSB). Just for my private collection. They have the best prices I have found. Check them out.

I have been using Provident out of Texas, although I live north of Denver, I have not yet gone in and purchased silver direct from the mint shop.

GOLD BULLION COINS | American Silver Eagles | BUY SILVER BULLION ROUNDS & BARS

I had not checked provident in a while, I noticed this neat novelty item. A 1 oz silver molded like a 45 acp bullet. Not for tender exchange, but pretty neat.

1 oz Silver Bullet | Buy .45 Caliber ACP Bullion Silver Bullets

I'm going to have to order a couple of those 45acp bullets... pretty freaking cool, i'd order more if they weren't $6 over spot...

My favorite mint is Monarch Precious Metals. They have pretty good prices on their private mint stuff like the stag deer rounds or the loaf style bars in 3 oz weights. They also have Eagles IIRC, and occasionally have 1/10th oz gold rounds too. Google search will bring up their site

Thanks for sharing that, I haven't heard of them but the 3oz bars sound right up my alley.
