I could stand a little help with some pointers for where to go in CA for turkeys. I am planning a trip out there to hunt for three days starting opening day. I will be starting from the Bay Area and plan on putting on as many driving miles as necessary. If possible, I would love to get into both Rios and Merriam's but I realize that may be a tall order. I am working a few other leads but everyone I know who is really into turkey hunting is out here in the east. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not an avid turkey hunter but I think it's hard to find birds on huntable public land here. There is some info here:

You might want to consider paying someone a tresspass fee, hunting is good on private land.

I am working on some leads for some private land areas to hunt but I was just hoping to get some help from those in the know on general areas that seem to produce better turkey hunting success. I seem to be getting what I need for finding places with Rios but I am hoping to find out more about where there are decent populations of Merriam's.
