Have a friend moving to California from Colorado due to an unexpected job relocation and just received his suppressor and stamp also. Does he have any options here besides selling it? I am not familiar with CA's laws on suppressors.

He can leave it with a trusted friend or family member. A locked firebox is a good way to go. Another option is a getting a bank drawer to store it.

From ATF

NFA firearms may be left in a safe deposit box in his or her former State of residence. Also, the firearm could be left or stored in the former State of residence at the house of a friend or relative in a locked room or container to which only the registered owner has a key. The friend or relative should be supplied with a copy of the registration forms and a letter from the owner authorizing storage of the firearm at that location.

The last time that I read that section of California penal code it was/is a felony for a California resident to OWN any prohibited items, the law made no exception for the item not being located in the state. Your friend needs to go talk to an attorney intimately familiar with federal AND California law.

You can own them, you just can’t posses them in CA. When I lived in CA, all my fun stuff was kept elsewhere.

33410. Any person, firm, or corporation who within this state possesses a silencer is guilty of a felony and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by imprisonment pursuant to subdivision (h) of Section 1170 or by a fine not to exceed ten thousand dollars ($10,000), or by both that fine and imprisonment.

I'm surprised but glad that they changed the wording of the statute.

No way to own a suppressor in Kalifornia. I moved to Arizona from kali because of their draconian laws.

Nope. Don’t even try it. They are 100% illegal all the time.

Not completely true. For the average person, yes. But with certain paperwork, LE can possess them and if you are in the business of making them and have all your CalDOJ paperwork in order for manufacture you can have them. That’s a major pain in the ass to get. Not impossible, but takes a lot of time and money if you just want one for personal use.

Well yes. But I’m pretty sure that’s way out of the scope of this thread. When I carried a badge in CA, I was only allowed to have a suppressor on my duty weapon. I still couldn’t purchase one for personal use. The only way to get one was to get a letter from the department. It’s a total joke. I was definitely not going there on this thread. There are always exceptions and ways to legally posses them, but the road is long and arduous. I’m honestly surprised surefire hasn’t bailed yet.

True. I’ve heard some rumors that Surefire is on their way out.

But we have nice weather. Surefire is probably looking at the coming 8 years of Gavin Newsom as Governor, and lord knows how many more years of Reginald Byron Jones-Sawyer Sr. and figures it's a no win situation for the firearms industry.

Would the safe deposit box idea work if you are on a trust and you are the beneficiary of the suppressors and you live in Illinois? My goal is to be out of here by then but just tying to figure it out.

I would not do the safety deposit box option. Failure to check it for a year or two, the bank may considered abandon and then confiscate it.
As long as the "rent" is paid on the box I am pretty sure they can not do that.
In doing a little search in most states the Bank can not even open your box upon your death without a court order.
If the rent (actually a lease) is paid why would the bank give 2 shits if you ever checked on it.

Question. I’m headed down to Palm Springs to visit friends and bring my 300 Winnie. I was planning on bringing my suppressor as well. Since I’m not a CA resident can I still bring and use it?
Like CA window tint laws. Illegal to have front 2 windows on a vehicle tinted, but other cars from other states are allowed and the CA law has no jurisdiction on out of state vehicles.

As for the suppresor, see above they are always illegal.

Just remember. PSA. Wyoming hates guns and we have too many people already..
Asshole robots, don’t forget WY has an asshole robot.

I know some PRS shooters that live in Cali that have suppressors as they are "manufacturers", so they can posess and "test" other manufacturers products.

As ive said, obviously. But clearly an SOT, manufacturer etc etc isnt asking the questions in here, they already know the answer. Your point is taken, but not within the scope of this thread.
