Can anyone identify this ammo?

A friend of mine shot this ammo through my rifle today without thinking. I'm worried it may be corrosive and have to clean my gas chamber. I don't have the tools to do so, nor am I supposed to remove the receiver out of the stock often since its bedded. I'm wondering if anyone know what this is and whether or not it is corrosively primed?

Crap, it was shot out of an M1a, do you know what I should do about it? I've already cleaned the barrel, am wondering about the gas system.

pull op rod to rear, apply GI bore cleaner in gas hole with gas piston in the down position.

If you don't have GI bore cleaner do Ed's Red 1/3 Mercon Dexron Tranny fluid, 1/3rd kerosene or Off road Diesel and 1/3 paint thinner or mineral spirits.

GI bore cleaner (US Military) either the smelly kind or the non smelly kind. both have same performance specs.

If nothing else Break Free applied with the tube from the drip bottle.

Don't try and remove gas nut unless you have the support wrench to keep everything staight. It looks like a figure 8. I think Sinclair International used to sell them.

The gas cylinder plug can be removed with a 3/8" open/box wrench or one of these:

The tricky part is holding the gas cylinder and rifle securely enough to loosen/tighten the gas plug which is where a gas cylinder wrench is very helpful, but it is not completely necessary just to loosen and remove the gas plug (field cleaning). It is needed though to remove the gas cylinder lock if you are fully disassembling the rifle.

One method to securely hold the rifle is to lay it on a flat surface like this:

Once you get the gas plug loosened and removed the gas piston should slide out easily for cleaning.

Often gas plugs are installed with too much torque or seize up a little due to fouling. When you reinstall the gas plug be sure to add some grease (not oil) to the gas plug threads and gently snug it up. You should clean your gas piston and gas cylinder every 300-500 rounds.

If you are new to the M14/M1A platform I would highly recommend you pick up a copy of The Complete M14 Assembly Guide to help with assembly/dis-assembly and routine maintenance. Also some Tetra Grease is a must, and either one of these wouldn't hurt either. Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the advice, I got it cleaned pretty well. No too happy with the guy that ran random ammo through my rifle though.

Buy some Ballistol sportsman Oil. It will neutralize any corrosive ammo with just a small squirt.
I can shoot black powder, squirt ballistol in the barrel and clean it next year. Never a pit rust mark or anything.
