Ok here is the deal, i have been reloading rifle for 4 years now, so i am gonna buy a dillon for pistol now. Be loading .45acp .40sw 9mm. My questions for now is which brass should i get if i was to start stocking up on supplies. Which bullet brands? and primers would you guys recommend? Mostly for plinking and self defense, i want good stuff. I just wanna start stock pileing it now...thanks men

Once fired any kind of brass. I try to stay away from nickel cases. I like Winchester primers. For cheap plinking I like Barry's plated bullets. But for home defense I like golden sabers or hornady xtp.

Be careful with once fired .40 brass. Some that has been fired in Glocks or other barrels with unsupported chambers will sometimes bulge the base of the brass. RCBS makes a special die that can squeeze it back down to size. I have found that it is really a problem with nickel cases.
For new brass Starline is very good and whenever I buy new (infrequently) I go with these.
For primers I try and get whatever I can on sale. I haven't found much of a difference in accuracy for the ranges that I typically shoot pistol. Federal primers are a bit softer and easier to ignite with low powered striker or main springs.
I highly recommend either Rainer or Berry's bullets. Very clean to load and shoot. They don't really wear the barrel either.
Take your time setting up your Dillion and you should be able to load thousands of trouble free rounds.

Large pistol primer can still be found, so get them while you can from wideners, midsouth etc. powder might be an issue, so I recommend finding some Ramshot True Blue, or whaever you favorite is. As things are right now, buy what you can find. Get picky later.

Xtreme bullets are good to go if you want to shoot plated bullets. Montana Gold and Precision Delta are good fmj bullets. Primers, like others said are just whatever is on sale. I have had good results with Power Pistol, Unique, and 231 for powders.

2nd for Rainer and Berry's plated bullets in 380, 38, 9, 44 and 45....cost much less than true jacketed, shoot very well for me, expecially my XD45, and not as dirty/smokey as lead. Any primier will do...especially for plinking. I like clays and titegroup...231 pretty good, and VV nice if you can find it and don't mind the extra cost.
If you are going to JUST load pistol, look at the dillon Square Deal...much quicker than loading pistol on a 550B.

I'm only up to about 10 loadings on some of my brass but I know some folks that have loaded .45 brass so many times they can't read the head stamp. Probably less with .40 and 9 because of the higher pressure but most likely you will lose them before you wear them out. Just inspect your brass and use a case gauge or your barrel to check them.
The SB is a good press but if there is any possibility that you will need to do rifle I'd skip it. The difference in price between that and a 550 is insignificant over the life of the press over the long term.

I recommend against the 550 for pistol reloading because it is not an Auto Index press, I have seen first hand 2 pistols blow up due to being double charged, one a Glock the other a 1911, both were loaded on 550s, get out of sequence just once and you'll be lucky if just the pistol is toast.

The aps strips are primers set in plastic strips for automatic primer feeders. I have never seen The type of primer feeder that uses these. The primers are the same as the ones in regular packaging, so if you can get a good deal on them, buy and push them out of the strips. I use a Hornady progressive press with the case feeder. You get more bang for the buck with the Hornady.

For primers, anything works good. I've used Wolf and Winchester with no issues.

They go for less than Berrys plated bullets lots of times and I like them better. That said, the Berrys plated bullets are my second favorite and if I can get them a lot cheaper I go with those.

As far as bullets, I used to use Rainer out of Fife, WA. I switched over to Montana Gold as they were cheaper and easier to get. Not sure they are any better than the Rainer's.
