I can't decide with bullet to work up a load with! 155? 168, 175/178?. Will be shot out of 20" 1:12 barrel. Factory sps tactical. Max range I have near me is 300yards. But I do shoot further out to 500-700yards on occasion.

The 155s will be fine for the close in targets. Not too much recoil and you can rev them pretty fast, not too much drop to 300. For the 700 use the 175s. 168s are mainly designed for 600 yards and closer in.

Can't decide! Which bullet!

168 or 155. For 1:12

1:10. Will shoot them all + the heavys

1:11.25 will still shoot 155 palmas and 168. Past 600 yards go with a 175/178.

Your barrel twist is gonna like the 155 pushed fast or the 168. Not sure the 175 and up will stabilize correctly.

It will... I've shot 185 juggernauts out of the same rifle and they were good to go. Also shot the 175 vld out to 975 yards with the same rifle. Ha... You could BARELY hear the pop on the ar500 plate

don't think you can make a bad choice hornys, sierras, bergers. I like the horny and berger 155s and 178 horny bthps. the hornys are cheaper but you do need to weight sort for best results. If its not too windy I like the lighter faster 155s over all.

Based on my current experience with a Krieger 1-10 twist barrel on an AR-10, and considering your slower twist barrel, I would give the 155-grain bullets a close look. There are the Sierra 155-gr Palma Match and the Hornady A-Max, both of which my barrel likes, and I've heard that the similar Lapua bullet is good to 1000 yards. I plan to get some to test.

The barrel also likes the 175-gr bullets. They would be worth checking, but your 1-12 twist *might* be a little too slow.

For some reason, unlike my M1A, the AR-10 barrel does not like the 168-gr bullets. Looks like a shotgun pattern. Which figures, since I have hundreds of them.

Cheers,
Richard

I have a 1-12 twist krieger and it is a tack driver with the 175 and a healthy doze of varget. it reach 1000 yds easily.
shoot whatever bullet weight you can find the most of to burn your barrel up or work up three different load with all of them.
cheers.

My experience has been the 168smk is the easiest bullet to get shooting well I've ever used regardless of caliber. Not to say the 155s and 175s don't also shoot well, but the 168s are just extremely insensitive to seating depth and charge. I don't think I've ever had a "bad" load with 168s.

168s are also plenty good for 700 yard shooting. Sure, 175s will have a shade less wind drift, but they cost more and have more recoil. For the bulk of the OPs shooting (to be done at 300 yards) velocity and BC isn't going to mean zip.shit. He'd do fine with a 110gr flatbase.

Hotrodding the 155s will eat up a 308 barrel considerably faster than 168s @ 2700 or 175s @ 2650.

For general training always inside 700 yards but primarily at 100-300 yards, the 168s at moderate velocity are ideal.
