Carbon Barrels Bartlein or Proof?

Hi all, I am putting together a 6.5 PRC built on a Terminus Zeus action. I was set to get a Proof carbon sendero for it however my gunsmith said he just received a few of the new Bartlein carbon barrels in red tinted wrap for 6.5. So has anyone had experience with these? how do they stack up against the Proof carbon? not sure which one to go with now that I have a choice.

I am in the process of collecting parts for a new build and went with the Bartlein. I've had really good luck with their barrels so figured why not when they came out with the CF wrapped barrels. Found one of the #4 contours in stock, now just waiting on the action to be delivered.

In the same boat, different caliber. Think I’m going Bartlein as will be same as other barrels. Do wish it was lighter. Have hear paradigm carbon barrels are light, but haven’t seen many reviews here.

What are you building with this barrel? Also what stock are you using?

Well, since I have an obsession with 7MM-08's it will be another one :) Should be the best one yet hopefully;) So far I have most of the parts, have a TriggerTech trigger, Hawkins Precision bottom metal, Proof Research carbon fiber stock and am waiting on the action which will be a Defiance Rebel with the sheep cut. Hoping to get the rifle to weigh around 6 lbs 4-5 ozs which I think I can do. The barrel I ordered is supposed to finish @ 24" but I think I can get it down to 23" +/- a little bit.

I like Proof CF barrels. But in my book a Bartlein is never a mistake. Next CF Barrel I buy will be Bartlein. I like the barrels and I like the company.

NOT ONE THING AGAINST PROOF. Very good folks.

Proof and Bartlein are cut barrels, and top quality. Proof has the track record for carbon fiber. If you are looking at weight, there appears to be a difference between the two.

Both make great barrels. Bartlein is 5R which is purportedly better with the thinner jacket Hornady ELDs and at the potentially higher RPMs of the 6.5 PRC. GAP has Bartlein CF barrels in 1/7.75 twist which could be ideal for longer solids and the ELDs.

From what I've seen, bartlein is more popular. I don't think anyone can prove one is much better than the other. Maybe one just has exactly what you want or goes on sale ,that's how I'd pick

Not necessarily more popular but look at it this way and I'm not trying to be arrogant at all....

Look who's sticks win more in F Class, Benchrest, PRS etc...there is a reason we might be more popular.

That being said....CFW barrels in my opinion don't necessarily fit every application either.

Mark and Tracy and Jeff went to the range yesterday morning to test CFW barrels on Marks LV 6PPC benchrest guns. Looks like they will work. All 5 shot groups. Notice even the group on the business card.

No load tuning/development etc...shot 3 five shot groups thru each gun. No barrel break in etc....the one group not pictured was used to make sure both guns still had good enough zero's on the scopes from the guns being taken a part etc...just chambered the barrels this past weekend.

The other picture attached is of Marks guns. We did the wrap in the red/brown color.

Good point!

As Frank said, tough to ignore Bartlein's reputation for quality barrels. Took longer to bring the CFW to market but you can believe they took their time to get it right. I've got a proof on a hunting rifle and i know that when it's shot out i'll be going to Bartlein.

That’s cool Frank, thanks for posting some results.

I think the bartlein are slightly heavier. I don't think the barrel from either will be the limiting factor for the accuracy of your rifle.

The slightly heavier is negligible if you're referenncing Frank @lowlight Bartlein CF thread... He said the Bartlein blank was heavier compared to proof but after Mile High machined it he said the weights were much closer.

Just pulled the trigger on 4 carbon bartleins for some 6.5 PRC builds I’m putting together for buddies. Initially I was going with proof, but after waiting 8+ weeks on the order I canceled and went with Bartlein. Bugholes has them in stock and hopefully we’ll get them by the end of the week. I’ve had great results with my Proof 28nos but it has been a little finicky finding and holding a load. For a hunting rifle both are great but why not go with the best?!?

I’ll report back after Spartan Precision puts them all together.
