Hunting & Fishing Carbon fiber stock choices

Looking for a new stock for a hunting rifle. It’ll have a bighorn origin with a 22” proof sendero.

I know a lot is personal preference but I want something that has a high comb so I don’t need a cheek riser. I’ve been looming at Gunwerks, AG composites, McMillan, and stockys. Anything else out there? Looking to stay around $7-800

With the parts you listed, I'd take a look at the AG Composites Privateer. Had a chance to fondle one of these recently and was really impressed with it. Super stiff fore-end and good overall ergos. This was on a Defiance action/Proof Sendero Lite 6.5 CM build.

Another one to consider, and one I'm really looking at is the Proof Light Weight Mtn Hunter stock they use on their Elevation rifles. Stockys sells them at your price point, in fact think they are on sale now for 10% off. Already fit for a Origin action and a Proof barrel. They are pretty darn nice IMHO.

I have the AG Privateer, weighs in at 24.6 oz for R700. Unfortunately it has a Low stock comb out back, which is my biggest complaint about it as I have to have a cheek riser for it. Price was right in the $650 range, overall I am pleased with the stock. Next CF stock I get will be from AG composites as well, this time with a adjustable cheek and a front pic rail. Exactly 8 weeks from order to doorstep.

I have heard they supply some of Stocky's carbon fiber stocks but cannot confirm that.

I went CF on both. Clymr for my 6.5 PRC for hunting, and the Verdict for my 6mm Creedmoor that I’ll use for target/PRS shooting. Quality I will say is very impressive.

I didn't know what profile/fit details to click on their website for my Remington Light Varmint, so a sales representative took my order by email. I only specified "lightest" for fill, so I assume that will be the carbon version.

The EH1 doesn't come with aluminum pillars, for those of you that have a Manners stock does the stock need them?

Anyone own the Stocky Stocks House brand VG2 stocks? They have nice looking stocks at good prices, but I have never seen one in person.

I had one of the LRC versions. It was comfortable and light but maybe not as stiff in the fore end as I would have like. Ended up giving it to a buddy of mine. However the new it supposedly lighter and stiffer. Their page says it’s built in house but have read AG may have something to do with it. Been lookin at them myself and ran across this video. Hope this helps.

I’ve owned 2 Manners (eh2 and prs2). I’ve spent a short amount of time behind my buddy’s eh1. The eh1 is a nice stock and the palm swell isn’t as large as my PRS. I have bigger hands so I like the larger palm on mine, but it is something to note. He has a 50mm on it now with a proof sendero contour barrel and I was lifting my head just a bit on his, but for him no issues. You can always put something like a triad stock pad on it if you need any extra height plus I find a stock pad more comfortable than CF. Maybe I’m getting softer. Manners gets my vote, but I haven’t had any experience with the other stocks.

Also to submit for consideration is the carbon fiber stock by Mesa Precision Arms at RHR.

It looks really nice, and has aluminum pillars installed.

I have a AO 700 in 6.5 creed with the 22" varmint barrel. I sold the chassis ahwile back, and my search is for a strong light stock for hunting - also going with a BDL setup. I strongly dislike a detachable mag that isn't flush with the bottom of the stock, for southeastern whitetail hunting they aren't necessary IMO.

I received a reply from them today. The stocks do come with an aluminum bedding block. There are 3 options for fitment of the block, which is what I wanted clarification on from Gunwerks. Option 1 is they glue the block in place before shipping the stock, and you just drop in your barreled action. Option 2 (+$50) is they send a kit for you to glue the block into the stock. That way, you can make sure the barrel aligns perfectly centered in the barrel channel. Option 3 (+$350) is you send them your barreled action and they do all the work installing into the stock, making sure everything aligns perfectly.

I have had a Manners with mini chassis that the barrel was way off center. Never knew if it was the stock or barreled action that was the problem, but the solution Gunwerks has for this seems pretty solid.

Also, as of now turnaround is approximately 60-90 days.

I went with a McMillan carbon game warden and Proof barrel at 22”. The rig comes in at 9lbs with a Thunderbeast ultra 7, Nightforce ATACR 4-16x42 and a Surgeon action.

McMillan Game Hunters (28 oz) each and titanium Tuebor actions.

One is 22” 6.5 PRC

Other is 26” 28 Nosler

Look at a manners prs2 stock it is carbon fibre and weight 3 pounds also quite a good looking stock was going to build a custom origin action with a Carbon fibre proof barrel and put it in one of these stocks.

I have 3 Manner stocks 1 is the Elite hunter and I also have a Bell and Carlson, all custom rifles. The EH is a nice stock and very light weight. The BC is heavier but much Cheaper. Happy with both. No experience with Stocky's stocks but hear some good reviews.
