Sidearms & Scatterguns Carry while not wearing Jeans/Pants

So i picked up a Sig Ultra Compact 1911(and I Love it)...

Waiting on my White Hat IWB holster to show up, and I was wondering if anyone ever carrys their weapon during the summer while wearing shorts? When I say shorts i am referring to a cargo-type or similar pair of shorts, not just an athletic or gym shorts.

If so, what gun are you carrying and in what type of holster/belt combo... Or maybe no belt at all?

Looking forward to hearing any and all opinions.

I believe in consistency when is comes to a SD carry pistol/revolver. Meaning no matter how I dress, my revolver (S&W 642) is carried the same place all the time.

I carry in my pocket, so if I decide to wear shorts as you described, the revolver is in the same place, in my pocket. It works summer, fall, winter, and spring. Always in the same spot.

In the summer the problem is concealing a full-size psitol under a T-shirt, which is difficult for many small-framed people. The best I have found for this, because of the carry angle, is here:

If I'm wearing cargo shorts, then I wear a belt and either run my usual setup (G26 in a Milt Sparks VM2) if I'm wearing something like a polo shirt, or a Ruger LCP in a Desantis Summer Heat IWB if I just have on a light T-shirt.

Shaun[/QUOTE] I'm against "no belt" , don't matter the gun size, the lenght or the model of the pants, or where you are more comfortable to tuck it_ a proper belt (under a oversize shirt) can allow the C.C. even wearing swimming shorts,and can be a valuable aid to make more reliable the function of the holster on carring... and drawing_ strong or weak side,I think useful to have one of the arms apt to keep the weapon pushed against the (left or right) waist side, if needed_ this way I think can be a plus for utter concealement and control under situation like running, bowing forward,crowded environment,etc_ hope can help_

Cargo shorts I still carry Les Baer Stinger 45ACP in Milt Sparks SS2 IWB with bullhide gun belt. If I am in regular swimsuit, Sig P238 in the pocket, and in my thong I do have any more room to stash a gun

Three things:

While it will require a belt, I really like the Vangauard 2 from RCS VanGuard 2. Great minimalist set up for appendix carry. You will want to Dremel off the plastic related to lanyard hole for max comfort.

Second: Old school Brami grips (or just going Mexican) works well with a J-frame, with or without a belt.

Lastly: when I run I use a small fanny pack that I have sewed around the outside of the J-frame such that it is always oriented muzzle straight down. I wear this under shorts or sweats. It is completely hidden and doesn't bounce with each footfall and I have logged hundreds and hundreds of miles with this set up. That said, I think I will sew up a new one made out of neoprene that is much smaller - fitted to the J frame, open top, and fastens across the back with neoprene and velcro instead of a nylon web and a plastic clip - which can feel like it is digging in during a long run.

There are always a couple who never seem to get the memo about the dress code.

Anyway, I go through this conversation a few times a year with people who are new to firearms. I can't make them understand that a proper holster and wearing it on a substantial, purpose-designed gunbelt are at the center of carry. They've grown up with this convenience-driven mentality. It just doesn't work like that.

I don't recommend them, but if you absolutely, positively can't be brought to wear something like a proper pair of jeans/trousers, or even substantially constructed shorts, try a shoulder holster with an oversized dark shirt and some sort of an ultralight t-shirt underneath. It's much better than nothing.

answering the origonal question, i use a "pistol wear PT" and a S&W shield , Kahr, or diamondback. i wear a big Tshirt and basketball shorts. Gun sits horizontal above my crotch, ( maybe tmi: but kinda where my pubic hair is). blocks moisture great doesnt move. awkward feelings when you sit, or squat, due to your thighs hitting the rig or weapon. I do NOT recomend bicycling with this. Gun access "flap" is right at belt line so you can lift the shirt and still not see the carry holster,( if you choose to orintate your shorts elastic to cover the access flap). I ran/jogged 5k, 80deg 55%humidity, changed my oil, and mowed my grass, gun was dry, and secure.
It takes a hell of a long time to get that pistol out as it is "deep Carry" (compared to OWB, or IWB) also pistol wear needs to redesign the top lock flap to go INSIDE (tuck and snap), not outside , as it can print.

Plus 1 on the kahr PM9! Perfect size! I use one with a hogue handall Jr on the grip always tucked in a Crossbreed Minituck strong side. Conceals well under all but the smallest T-shirts.

I am having an internal debate right now between the Super Tuck and the Remora 10ART...should be a no-brainer, but the Remora is 1/3 of the cost of the Crossbreed, and I know a few individuals who swear by the Remora's. However, I can just tell by looking at the Crossbreed, it is probably a damn safe bet for IWB carrying.

There shouldn't be much debate i shopped for 6 months and had my hands on 4 diffrent IWB holster before i decided on the Super Tuck. If cost is a problem Crossbreed gives a discount for Mil/LEO and NRA members. Read about it in there FAG's section. If it isnt the one piece of advise I can give is spring the extra for the Horsehide. It is SOOOOO! much better when it gets hot outside it does not build up heat like regular leather. I love mine

With a quality holster and belt, I find it easy to conceal a para-ordnance P-13 strong side and extra mag on support side when wearing cargo,shorts. the key is having a quality belt and holster...they make all the difference in the world...and it is comfortable enough for all day wear.

I can't do IWB because I do too much transition of sitting, standing and all kinds of stuff and I'm just not built for stuffing something under my waist, but I find that cargo shorts and cargo pants with a nicely designed pocket holster do a very good job of concealing and keeping things in place.

I agree on the belt being a necessary part of the package, and don't plan to carry without one. I plan to carry virtually the same as wearing jeans only in cargo type shorts...

KAHR P380 in the right upper pocket. Nearly all my pants & shorts have 4 front pockets so the gun, keys, phone and junk don't beat eachother up. Duluth Trading Company pants have a little pocket at the bottom of the top-right front pocket that is perfect for the muzzle of a small pistol. Granted, the barrel (and I admit, the slide also) collects a little lint over time, but my hope for the little .380 is that presenting her to a bad guy will be enough to calm him down and I won't have to fill him full of lint and lead.

Under stress, muscle memory is very important! Carry in the same place all the time. I carry on my right hip for work, so off duty that's where a carry as well.

+1 In the same place, same holster year round. 5" 1911 owb with a belt and that includes jeans and shorts. In TN its dosent have to be covered so I'm not really worried if I print under my t-shirt.

I just started trying this out. It is does a pretty good job, my larger framed guns fit just fine. Very comfortable too.

Since I am where it is very hot, it is quite difficult to carry full size weapons.

I always wear pants that take at least a 1.5" belt. i always wear a wife-beater (tank-T) underneath to keep the leather off my skin.

I carry IWB year round. Either Glocks or 1911s, Full size, compact, or subcompact. Right now my most concealable SD gun is a custom Colt Officers model with a round butt MSH and slim grips. It goes into a Minotaur MTAC, and virtually disappears under a loose T-shirt.

I almost always layer up, especially when I'm carrying anything bigger than the Officer's Model. I'll wear a colored or print T-shirt layered with an unbuttoned, collared shirt. In warmer weather it will be lighter material, of course, but always substantial enough to conceal the bump. Print shirts, not too light in color and weight tend to conceal better.

OR, it'll be jeans and a blazer for a more dressy-casual look.I position my mag pouch to create equivalent 'bump' opposite side from the gun to aid the illusion. It adds a couple of pounds to my appearance but I'm less likely to get 'made'.

For other carry guns I use one of the following IWB holsters: Cross Breed Super Tuck, Comptac CTac, a variety of Alessi Holsters, And one delightfully thin Galco IWB for a Government model 45.
