This is a prefit for a RimX barrel. The ammo is eley match. I tried to give it a gentle tap to see if it would completely sit within the barrel, but it does not. I just contacted the manufacturer of the barrel and hopefully to hear back from them if this is a common thing. I did bother to torque it to the action.

Has anyone had something similar happen to them? What was the resolution?

It is common for a rimfire slug to be engraved by a match chamber.
This can take the use of the camming force of the bolt both to fully seat, and extract, a live round.

As obx stated, normal for certain match chambers.
My Lilja and Shilen 22lr barrels both leave 1/16th to 3/32nds of an inch exposed
when a cartridge is slipped into the breech. Closing the bolt will seat the cartridge fully.

Due to the chamber dimensions, out of spec cartridges will not chamber.
If the bullet or brass exceeds saami or cip specifications, it won't allow the bolt to close.
Many Winchester products, some Aguila and CI (not CCI) will not chamber at all.

Thank you all for the clarification, I really appreciate it. I thought I had a bad barrel. I will just need to find a chassis and give this a go.

About 80% of the people out there cutting Rimx barrels do not know what they are doing. Need to go with a proven smith who understands them.

2 of the big names here who sell/make them, I can name half a dozen people who had issues with them and ended up trashing them.
