Case holder for wilson trimmer

Hello boys,

I'd like to buy a Wilson case trimmer. Unfortunately Wilson doesn't produce the case holder for the 7x64 Brenneke.
So I like to try to make it myself. I've just done one but its diameter under the shoulder is not very precise.
I want to try to remake another one and if I've luck I'd like it was the last.
The question is: is there someone who own the Wilnson trimmer and could be so kind to give me the external diameter of the case holder? If you have a digital caliber I'd prefer in mm. Anyway in inch it doesn't matter.
If I'll be able to do it I'm going to buy the Wilson otherwise I have to buy Forster or something else.

Thank you very much.

Ciao Gian...

Re: Case holder for wilson trimmer

I have 3 case holders for my Wilson trimmer. My Mitutoyo digital caliper says their outside diameter is pretty closely controlled, but not perfect, as the 3 measue out as:

.9975"
.9970"
.9965"

This suggests to me that the target OD is .9970" +/- .0005 or tighter (remember, I am using a digital caliper so my "resolution" is limited to .0005").

What is the parent case, I bet Wilson makes a holder for it, give L.E. Wilson a call Monday and ask them how much and how to get a custom one if need be.

Careful. If you intend to trim only, the acceptable tolerance is relatively loose. But, if you intend to use the Wilson internal chamfering tool available for the trimmer, the tolerance must be held relatively closely, for reasons that become clear when you consider how wide and deep you want the chamfer to be, and how SYMMETRIC with the case, given that cases are not all perfectly uniform in wall thickness.

The advantage of using the Wilson tool on the trimmer is that you ensure absolute co-aligment of the axis of the chamfer with that of the case. But, this only works if the case holder is exactly the right diameter (or very close to being so), and the hole you ream within it for the case is also pretty perfectly centered.

If you cannot ensure good accuracy, do not try to use the chanfer tool that mounts in the trimmer!
