Gunsmithing Castle Nut Tool Recommendation

As the title suggests, I'm looking for recommendations on Castle Nut tools. I have a standard AR armor wrench, but it chews up the buffer tube threads when torquing the castle nut.

Does anyone know of a tool that won't chew up the buffer tube threads? Hopefully, at a reasonable cost.

I’ve used a standard armorers wrench for at least 10 years and never messed up threads.

Before assigning blame to the castle nut tool you should check buffer tube thread classification 1A/2A / 3A that would be matching the internal B class of threads for the castle nut being used.

The Magpul one is nice from the standpoint of encircling the castle nut to minimize slipping. Also, when using any tool on it, "anchor" the tool by exerting force forward to keep it engaged in the slots.

What's been hanging over my bench for 10 years now. It just works.

More importantly, how are you securing the lower? The NCStar Lower vise block is a great and inexpensive way to secure the lower while using the wrench.

I was using the NCStar tool that aligns the buffer tube on the last two that I was rebuilding when I made this thread. In the past, I've just used a mag well vise block.

I prefer the discontinued Tapco green wrench. I also have a few extras that are new/never used for sale if anyone is interested...

Yeah. I bought one of those last year after starting this thread. Used it recently on the new lower that I'm building, and it didn't chew up the buffer tube threads like my armor's wrench.

My favorite castle nut tool is the echo Zulu armorers kit. I got it from Brownells (#430104730) but not sure if they are still available. They also sell the individual pieces of the echo zulu kit. Echo zulu might be selling them direct now?

Speaking of castle nuts, check out the ones from fortis mfg. once you use one, it’s hard to go to regular ones. No bite or sharp edges.
