I teach CC classes. For accuracy, ability to handle easily with any size of hands, several nice options, and several caliber selections.....Bersa Thunder, Thunder Combat, or Thunder Plus.

Until you have tried one, don't know them. I bought two to select from when I carry - both Ultra Compact Pro - one in 40 and one in 45. The UCP is heaver than the Thunder series though.

+1 for the Glock 19. The size difference of the 26 and 19 is negligible for CHL in my opinion and is costly when weighing magazine carrying capacity. As mentioned previously purse carry may be done so with a holster to get rid of the lipstick scenario, though some brands of purses are designed for carry.

Were she to jog with it I'd imagine she could go with a belly band

He's looking for a CCW for a woman. A glock 19 is a fine pistol, but be real. A glock 19 for a woman in summer clothing is a no go!!! A slim single stack semi auto makes more since, will be more comfortable to carry, and will not be seen as easy. How many woman do you know that wear baggy clothes? There are many choices, such as the Nano, TCP, LCP, LC9 , PM9, and more. Kahr just happens to be my favorite because of the smooth DAO trigger.

Yeah, awesome pistol as the G19 is, that just ain't gonna happen in real life. Belly band carry of a G19 for a 3-9 mile run? Don't know that I'm even up to that myself! I mostly just don't carry when I run because I'm the most dangerous thing I know of in my area, but I would like for her to carry consistently and the G19 will not realistically allow that.

I think the subject line of the OPs post should scare anyone.
"CCW for Novice female shooter" A novice should not be a CCW holder, simple fact. Until one has learned how to use their gun, learned how not to be titled a novice only then should one even think about it. Make her take some classes and until she is no longer a novice keep her away from a CCW. I don't want some novice out unless you give her snap caps to use

And you recommend the novice lose that title by...? Training, right? I thought I had made it clear that she is and will continue training with handguns in general and specifically her CCW before carrying, but thanks for clarifying. She can probably out shoot a disturbingly large percentage of so-called "gun guys" already, knows how to handle safely, and competently operate several action types, but I still consider her a Novice. My point is, she's not yet a real pistolera, and that aught to be considered in selection.

Some of you guys make it sound like one needs a degree to carry. Any adult with common enough since to keep their finger off the trigger unless they mean to shoot, can carry. No offence but you are calling her an Idiot without even knowing her. No experience needed!!!! I could teach her everything she needs to know about carrying a pistol in less than 30 minutes, if she is a smart responsible adult. Then once she learns the basics of safety, the more practice of drawing and shooting makes perfect if she wants to continue and get more proficient. She doesn't need to be a marksman, just able to hit a man in the mid section at 7 yards. A CCW gun for a woman is a get the Fu*k of me weapon. That's it! The CCW course is sufficient enough for her, and after she takes that, she should be knowledgeable enough to carry. If she is an Idoit, she want pass the course, so you'll be ok strangedays, LOL

I got my girlfriend a S&W 642 Ladysmith. She loves the grips and after i put an Apex Tactical Duty/Carry spring and extened firing pin kit in it she was quite accurate with it. I made her some light recoiling 38 Loads and she put 300 Rnds through it at one time. She also used some factory +P to see where it was hitting and know what to expect for recoil. I dont condone reloads for carry. Only practice.

My wife while not a novice shooter has had a serious learning curve going from her bersa thunder 380 to her 642. the recoil does not bother her, its the trigger pull, which she is becoming accustom to. consequently she is starting to shoot better groups with it than she used to (2 foot at 7 yards down to 8 inches at 7 yards). now her holster took no time at all to get used to. she uses the flashbang...and loves it

Moving on, when we were first married, I bought my wife a PF9. I had owned the P11 and hated the trigger. Had a chance to shoot a friends PF9 and like the improved trigger. Decided if she didnt like it I could either use it for summer as I am skinny mo and it is hard to hide much on me or sell it for what I had in it. Turns out she likes it just fine. She says it isnt fun to shoot, but is ok with that knowing it isnt her daily shooter and it is easy to conceal. FWIW

Kel Teks are lighter than other manufacturers, with manageable recoil, pull-able triggers and good accuracy I chose one for myself.

If you expect her to carry while jogging get the P-32 it only weighs 9.4 ounces with a full magazine. (How much does her cell phone weigh?) I admit you will probably need to take it apart and clean it to get the best trigger pull (plastic shavings can get in there) but she might also think it is "cute" and keep in mind that statistically going by real world incidents just as many attacks have been successfully fended off with .22s as 9mm's

As far as Sig, Kahr and Ruger goes, they all weigh more, they are all larger, they can cost up to twice as much and in Ruger's case they have the "lawyer trigger" that I just hate.

No, I have not yet made a purchase. I have been paying my way through college, and now that I'm done I will have some income freed up with which I can buy her handgun by mid summer. I'll revive this thread when I make the purchase.

Most likely right now we are going to buy her the SW 637.

Cvedrick, I am very much impressed with Kel-Tec! Sometime in the future I intend to get a P3-AT/Ruger LCP for her/me to use as deep concealment/running weapon, but I don't want it to be her primary CCW for a lot of reasons (my total dislike for the .32 ACP/.380 ACP being chief among them).
