True, a customs declaration needs to be completed but it's all filled out online and just printed out and stuck into the plastic envelope on the box and the other half handed over when it's posted or given to the courier but I have no problem if businesses or individuals don't want to do the extra 5min of work, there's always someone who will and they end up with the business instead. As for shipping as a gift, that's pointless, at least to Australia as gifts are treated the same as any other item, ie on their commercial value so no need to do anything special. With the free trade agreement bewteen the US and Aust there's no customs duty on items made in the US that I import and no tax unless the total exceeds $1k
Of course there are some parts that require export permits or import permits (I know I need an import permit for the bottom metal and mags for example and an export permit may be required as well at the other end) and there are plenty of parts that can't be exported or imported at all.
AXEMAN, I assume Jeff is the owner of CDI? I'd try another email but there's actually no email addresses on the site at all, just the form to fill out so I don't have anything to try.
EDIT: whoops, there actually is an email address. Missed that the other day.
