CDI in an HS stock-good stuff Maynard

just got it today in the mail. great finish, top shelf stuff. having talked to jeff before i know its going to need a little material removed from the bedding block and i started with a file and then used the dremel. 3 minutes at the most. drops right in. my alpha mags are coming soon too so ill let you know how it goes from there. ill get a few pics too, but its easy to see where the block needs massaged to let the CDI drop in.

here you see its wider at the back, the right hand side

here at the back its touching

and wont seat all the way flush

so i filed and dremeled just lightly and test fitted

and it went right in.

and thats that til i get a mag

I wonder are they ever gonna make one for the Tikka T3 in magnum lenght... I would love to get one and some AI mags!

They do but they are for 223, 308, etc... I need the longer version for 6.5x55

Is it sitting flush up front? I just wonder if you'll have trouble feedeing with the magazine angled down because the front of the BM isn't flush.

the DBM doesnt always line up with every stocks lines. i have seen some deeper than mine too. they all work. it may be the line of the stock is making it looks like its not flush, but its seated all the way and torqued to 40 inch pounds. im relying on the inlet to be uniform and that when i talked to jeff about fit and inlet, he said all i had to do was open up the interior of the stock and i could easily do it myself with hand tools. but the inlet should be the uniform as it held the previous DBM in the right position.

I'm putting one in a 700p with hs. I is not going to be flush I can tell this at the point I am at. I am getting drag marks on the rounds as it jumps the feeding ramp. Not sure at this point if I am going to have to change the angle on the ramp or seat the front of the cdi deeper in the stock. Another thing I am getting drag marks on the next round in the mag. I don't think I would get the drag mark on the round in the mag, as the bolt travels over that round if I had not fluted my bolt. It appears that the round travels a good bit farther forward in the mag before it pops out of the ai mag than the stock dbm. So the round is still seated in the mag as the tip is touching the feed ramp. I will post my solutions to these issues after I have resolved them.

whats your COAL? has your receiver been modded for longer rounds? that is detailed on alpha's site but im not sure if thats your issue. its listed as a mod for longer rounds.

one other thing. i bought the SSS 9 round mag right after i got this rifle. i always thought when looking at them, the SSS and the new and improved and much better mags that Dan at DarkEagleCustom makes, i always thought that the top of the mag pointed downwards slightly sloping to the front. and looking at the stock and the inlet for the factory DBM and how this CDI fits, that possibly the stock savage mags were designed to seat in the factory setup as it followed the line of the stock. basically altering the mag to suit the DBM to match the line of the stock. where the CDI holds the AICS mag just where it needs to be and at the correct angle and his DBM is built around a known mag instead of making the mag to fit the stocks lines and be flush like the 4 rounders are. make sense? i know ~ACE~ runs CDI and many others and have never heard of anyone doing anything to get it to work except drop in in and go. plug and play.

That looked easy enough. It looks nice with that new DBM installed! Jeffs product is top notch ,that's for sure. I like lower cost/high value product. I have a CDI on my main Remy and I couldn't ask anything more out of my DBM, with Mortas' the fit is snug and feeding flawless.

I have a savage in an HS precision stock with the CDI BM. I had Jeff inlet it though. Sits flush. The mag paddle is long on purpose and had to trim that down till the mags seated. I did find that it did not feed smoothly though, but after I shaved a hair more off the paddle everything works.

I did have more problems getting the C-products mag to work, the ACIS is perfect.

The savage is at my brothers, he's taking some scouts out. I do have these pic's of a remington action in an HS Stock that was also inletted at CDI. Essentially the same. Only pics I can take are with my iPhone, crappy as they may be. Hope they are helpful in any case

This one shows the BM is flush, fit is snug, no play

This one shows the mill cuts into the bedding block, very clean. The "dirt" on the trigger side of the cutout is just from my bedding job so pay it no mind.

The last is the worst pic, I tried to get how the mag lines up with the feed ramp... I sew people up for a living, not taking pictures....

jeff mentions the different way savage inlets on his site. when you get the savage back id still like to see that too if you dont mind. ill see what happens when i get the mags. im just not sure if its worth the effort/expense just to be flush if it works as is

I had one mag (AICS) that the rounds sat just a bit low. A slight and I mean very sight tweak of the mag lips solved the problem.
I tried all my mags and one mag the bolt would ride over the top of the round. I made sure all my mags are the same and all run 100%
A small crescent wrench make for a nice mag lip tuning tool.
