Cell Networks Down?

Must be a local or regional thing. The difference in coverage in this area, when comparing Verizon to ATT, is striking...
I'm in Oregon. In Western Oregon ATT has better coverage. Eastern Oregon Verizon is best. Wife who used to work with both companies on cell tower projects told me they used the same towers. I can sit and look at an ATT tower with my Verizon phone and only get 2 bars.

Irony.

My phone has a update notification on it.
That only happens about 2-3 times a year....right ?
What are the chances eh ?

Obviously I pressed the "later" button.

OBTW
Central KS, Verizon, up and working fine.

this doesnt seem to just be a cell phone outage

has anyone looked at downdetector?

its like everything got hit

Take a look at the finance catergories on that page. Also the online services - Open AI has suffered no disruptions that are congruent with AT&T, but lots of other online services have...like ADT...

Networks and power down in AO. Some
Large box stores can’t do prescriptions or take cards - 911 is down across the state . Some power outages as well .
AT&T and T mobile down across the state - I guess nation .

Cyber attack? .gov "testing" ? Someone's a dumbass?

I am still receiving the "normal" amount of texts and notifications.

Which is to say mine seems to be working just as it always does.

Which is to further say that everyone is using my cell phone more than I am using my cell phone.

When my cell phone totally stops working, I will send out a snailmail letter letting everyone know my land line (with answering machine) number. They can reach me there. I will talk to them . . . it I want to.

For those with IPhones… there is a software update dropping tonite and probably for the next few nights.

Suggest leaving phone unplugged over night so download won’t occur. So it can’t get half done and brick your phone. May be not an issue any more. But once upon a time…

I’ll leave mine unplugged regardless.

Can’t you just turn off automatic updates?

So 54% of ATT customers were effected this morning. Some are still effected. Funny thing is, everyone was down in my area, everyone except those rocking older phones. No idea how that has anything to do with it but I’m running an ancient iPhone by today’s standards and it’s been working just fine the entire time everyone else was bitching about being offline.

Yep. Happened to my wife a couple times.

This. I do this mainly.

You mean the Apple that intentionally (according to court documents) slowed customer phones with updates, so that they would be encouraged to buy new phones? What could go wrong?
Precisely. Still better than most other commie shit.

I ended my landline telephone service in 2017. I often thought that was a mistake

Here I am with a down ATT phone (Wifi calling still works)
My Verizon phone is still working

Then I am thinking I don't know anyone with a landline anymore, other than 911, if I had a landline while cell service was out, who would I call? :D

One huge drawback to technology is when it stops working

LOL... should keep that land-line,, you never know when you might have to revert back to the Stone Age.

This guy believes it was related to the two x class flares and doesn't haven't much faith in noaa. I tend to agree with him on the not trusting noaa part.

Hard no, for if it would have been that it would have disrupted Ham radio as well, which was,... NOT,... the case. The outage was man made, either a fat finger job at AT&T, or boggy man event. Either way we will never know the truth and it will be played as XXX by all involved.

If it was atmospheric it wouldn't just be att and Verizon. It would be everybody including tmobile and other parts of the em spectrum. @Gunfighter14e2 response to this is right.
