Putting together a rifle and I’m torn between hand guards. It’s a 16” barrel shot suppressed, lpvo gun I’ll use to shoot local 2 gun matches and take carbine classes with. I’d like a 15” mlok handguard. I really like the looks of the centurion cmr, but not sure how durable they are. The others would be the geissele mk 14, or slightly larger mk16, which I’m sure are plenty durable, I just don’t like as much. Iv never held any of them. Anyone have an opinion? Other similar handguards they’d recommend?

I have a cmr-12 on a 14.5 rifle I built for comps. It’s plenty durable the profile is similar to a BCM KMR/mcmr. It has a 1-6 and gets shot suppressed mostly. It’s been bumped and banged around no issues so far.

Durability is hardly a consideration for civilian use of almost any decent handguard on the market. They don't just shatter into pieces if you drop them.
That’s a good point haha. I guess I was more thinking flex in my mind, like if I was using it to shoot with a sling or banged against something, not will it get destroyed, but would there be a bunch of deflection. I don’t live terribly far from giessele and they have a store it looks like, so maby I’ll try to go see some of this stuff in person. Maby find a centurion dealer.
Thanks

I'm a huge fan of Geissele Mk14 mlok and BCM MCMR handguards. I have a bunch of both in various lengths.

The JP mlok handguard is also very nice and Rock solid. I've been running one for 6 months or so on a new build and I've been very happy with it.

That 15.5” Jp does look awesome too, even closer to the end of a 16” before the can. Thanks!

Tony brought it up but I don't think that durability would be at the top of my list for two gun. For competition rifles I really like some of the JP stuff because of the grip I can get and it does a good job with not heating up too quickly.

From top to bottom here you go. I also like the DD MFR MLOK. It has a unique lock up system that is very very solid and feels great in the hand

JP MLOK 15.5"
Geissele MK16 MLOK 15"
BCM MCMR 15" MLOK
Daniel Defense MFR MLOK 10"

Is that MK16 or a MK14?

I have, or have had, all of those rails. I still have the MFR, MCMR, and MK14. Of all of them I like the MFR the best. People in this thread said durability isn't a concern but my experience says it should be with the MK16. The MK16 has a well deserved reputation for deformation because the Mlok slots are all lined up. It isn't going to just bend by looking cross at it but when your rifle slides off the rack and hits something solid under it you may be a little surprised by the new dent.

Sorry MK14

Those a 2 of my favorite as well, with a slight nod to the Geiselle because of the longer barrel nut & ease of taking it off if needed.

But, IMO, the best of them all is the SLR Ion Lite. It has a barrel nut about the same length as the Geiselle with a better finish.

All 3 are about the same OD size & all feel about the same in the hand to me.

There are almost better buy on BCM for one source or another.................harder to find better deals on the other 2, but both usually run 20% or so off on major holidays.

I'm a huge SLR fan for large frame gassers... I have a few of them, specially because of their larger ID for plenty of 0.936 gas block clearance!

I like the BCM because of the thermofit handguard on the barrel nut. Makes for a super tight and rigid handguard.

I just built another upper today with a 20" fluted 416SS Green Mountain 223 Wylde barrel for testing. Thermofit BCM upper receiver, and thermofit BCM15" MCMR handguard.

Just got back from the range. Shot some 77cc/8208 and 69TMK/Varget handloads and this GM barrel is a heck of a shooter for the money!!!

I have CMR and BCM and like them both. I have the early first gen CMR rails without the lightening cuts or MLOK. They have served me well for a long time now. The CMR are pretty rigid and the rail panels work to keep the heat away. I think you would be happy with any of the options. They are all similar in dimensions.

I think I paid $125 for a 10.5" MCMR. I was going to buy another DD MFR but for almost 1/3 the price I couldn't justify the DD. The BCM rails come up on sale a lot.

It's just so hard to beat the BCM MOD4 thermofit upper receiver and the mcmr handguard for the money.

From an aesthetic standpoint if you like something else, sure, fine. But from a pure performance, quality and value standpoint the BCM is so hard to beat!

Especially when you can get the 15" MCMR for $170 pretty regularly on sale and the complete MOD4 upper assembly for $80 from the below link. I've been buying these "DEMO" complete upper receivers for many years and they literally show up brand new, with dust cover and forward assist without a mark on them. Best kept secret
