Hello Hide. Question for you guys with AI and Cerakote experience. Is it possible to Cerakote an AIAW Action/chassis ? Will the oven process effect the action to chassis bond ? I picked up an AIAW that has a Krylon camo job on it. Don't know if removing the krylon will be successful. Thinking about just having the action/chassis Cerakoted in Graphite Black or OD Green. Please advise.

You can Cerakote anything! Here are few of my AI builds.

@roncar2008 are you talking about a factory AW where the action is bonded to the chassis?

If so, the epoxy used has a max working temp range of 250F. If a typical 250-300F Cerakote cure temperature is used, that will definitely soften the epoxy. Whether or not the epoxy re-cures after cooling...I’m not sure but I doubt it would be as strong.

So you could Cerakote to a lower temp for a longer time like suggested above. Or use air cure Cerakote like done on scopes. Or de-bond the action and chassis and re-bond them after Cerakote is complete.

If it was me, I’d just remove the krylon from the action and leave it black like they all are from the factory. Then Cerakote the plastic skins if desired with air cure paint.

Disclaimer: I’m no expert but I’ve de-bonded my factory AX twice by putting it in an oven at 250F for an hour. The action and chassis peel apart by hand at 250F.

@samb300 , yes Sir talking about factory AW. Action is bonded to the chassis. That is what I'm worried about. I like you believe the epoxy bond will be weakened. I will do my best to remove the Krylon and leave it factory color. Thanks for the input Hide.
